Hello, I feel like I did my due diligence and searched the forum for a method for rigging **** shrimp under a sliding bobber for fishing from the bank and couldn't find what I was looking for. My home river has mostly steelhead with the occasional salmon but I am going after steelhead.

I want to add bait to my arsenal of methods to use along with beads, worms and jigs. I'm not clear if cured roe is a decent steelhead bait so I am focusing on learning to use **** shrimp.

I am using a 2/0 single hook on an egg loop leader and haven't figured a way of threading the shrimp on the hook that both looks fishy and keeps the shrimp on the hook for a decent amount of time. I purchased pre-cured shrimp from 2 different sellers and they both seem kind of mushy and soft. Don't know if that's normal.

I have seen a rig that looks like it might be worthwhile using a 2-hook rig but I have arthritis pretty bad in one hand so tying snell knots is virtually impossible so I have to buy pre-tied leaders. I am wondering if a mooching rig - with barbs, if that exists - would work.

Any advice on either setup - single or double hook - would be very helpful.

I don't think Summer Steelhead care what the bait looks like. They are actively feeding and want something that tastes good, nothing more. A gob of eggs and yarn doesn't look like anything special (neither does a lot of other stuff) and Steelhead will eat that all day long.

I do agree with downsizing hooks. It takes a pretty stout rod to drive a 2/0 past the barb. A number 1 is about right.

I have tried firming pre-cured **** shrimp with rock salt but I have found it really doesn't help much. Once they're cured and packaged they're pretty much going to be the way they are. However, if you want, put them in a Tupperware container with a bunch of rock salt and let them sit in the fridge for a couple of days to draw out a bunch of the water from them.

If I were you, I would try and cure up your own. And if you cannot find "**** shrimp" just cure up store bought frozen shrimp. They work great! Especially if you're just fishing them under a float. You can cut the shrimp into chunks and fish them just like you would a gob of eggs.
