Bob, I adored you. I will miss you. You brought such joy and excitement to the board. It was "catching" and so many people caught that bug, because of you!

You will be missed,

About six months ago, I was horrified to read on facebook that long time ifish.net member, since (2000!) Bob Dawson, (AKA Dawhunt) was so ill that he could no longer fish. He was expressing his frustration about it. Shocked and confused, I wrote to him, but didn't hear back.
Later, I saw that he was fishing again, and I was so happy!
Last night, I received this e mail.
On Monday, July 28, 2014,

Jennie, Thought I'd send a note.... A long time user of this site, Bob Dawson, aka Dawhunt, lost his fight with ALS, He passed away his past Friday night with his wife Charlie and family beside him. He will be missed.

User Name: washfire
My heart just sunk. Towards the end, Bob became a little frustrated with the rules at ifish and the moderation. He was upset about having a thread moved to the new fish and game management forum, and I understand that. When someone alerts a thread, and the rules are in place, we have to act. We can't move one, and not another, or we'll get members mad at us about "Why can he, and I can't?" Pheh.
The mods were a little upset over the tone of voice he used. But... what a lesson!
It just goes to show that rules are rules, but sometimes we can be a little lenient, but always... ALWAYS, we should be understanding of people's bad days and grouchiness, especially when it seems out of character for people.
He may have been having a bad day. He may have been hurting physically. He may have been upset over a diagnosis. Who knows?
Oh, how I wish we'd been a little more kind. A little more gentle. A little more lenient.
Lesson learned.
Bob, you were a blessing to ifish.net. Thank you for the joy you brought the board, and all of the fishing fun that you treated us to! You loved fishing so much that it was contagious, indeed!
May ifish.net always hold a history of your love of fishing and your kindness and generosity towards others!
I wrote, asking about services. Perhaps someone can add to the thread on ifish about Dawhunt, with exact details. Here's what I have:
I was told by Charlie that funeral will be having a service this Saturday in Camas with a gathering at Bethel church in Washougal after.. Not sure of all the details yet but may be on Browns web site.... Dave (washfire )

I fished many days with Bob both on His boat and mine. He usually caught the biggest fish. Now His pain is over and He is catching fish again in Heaven!! I also was blessed to be invited to hunt deer on His inlaw's ranch over in Collville and we had a great few years over there hunting and laughing. Bob and I were always on the same page in our views and I was pleased to call Him "Friend". He will be missed by many and especially by me. ALS is a terrible disease and when I visited or called, He was in good spirits and even though laughing a little, I know He missed the fishing and hunting. Many of You will remember Bob behind the Gun Counter at Sportsman's, always friendly and helpful with His vast knowledge of guns. I last saw Bob about2 1/2 months ago as I now live in Arizona, but was in Wash and stopped by for a visit. He was in good spirits and was excited about the house remodel and getting a power chair. I will always remember His smile as we hugged goodbye for the last time.

RIP my Brother and so sorry Charlie for losing Your Soulmate!!!

Bob shared many fishing tips with me about a certain island he liked to go. Bob and those tips resulted in many great fishing memories for my Wife and I. We fished next to each other a few times too. We met here on I-Fish. Great Guy. RIP Bob. Thanks!

The board will not be the same without him.....never knew him outside of Ifish, yet all the years of interacting with him here makes one feel somewhat akin. You will be missed Bob......shoot straight and keep your line tight.

Rest well, Bob!

Every time I drive by his house, I expect to see his boat hooked up and ready to go! It was a pleasure to have met him and fish next to him!
