Pontoon seat riser

So in searching for pontoon upgrades, ran across this guy who has the same pontoon as me, Colorado XT, and he did these mods from PVC pipe for rod holders and foot platform. He also did a riser for his seat, about 7 inch riser. Does that make for a better ride? I just added a swivel but kept it low. Was wondering if anybody had done this mod and do you like it? This is his youtube, I in no way endorse this guy, but I do like the mods, what I'm saying is I don't know this guy and this no way any kind of plug for his youtube. Thanks.

I didn't watch the YouTube video but I was just given a Colorado XT from a friend who bought it, used it once, put a swivel and a riser on it and then never used it again. I sat in the seat and imagined myself rowing and realized there was no way that was gonna work. The sticks would be on my legs with no clearance out of the water with the oar paddles. I took the riser off and put it back together with just the swivel. Took it out last week and it worked beautifully. I'd ditch the idea of the riser unless I missed something. That said, I have a free one if you want it. If you plan to move around with a motor it might be nice to have the riser.

I took the motor mount off of mine and put a piece of 3/4" pine I had laying around, ripped to about 3" x the width of the cage, and mounted it to the rear of the cage. On that I put a couple of Scotty rod holders so I can carry 3 rods....one in front with me in use and the other two with different setups waiting in the back. I also have a go pro mount attached to the board in the back that extends up above my head so I can get a good view of the fight with any feesh I encounter or whatever else happens organically.

I need to get another rod holder than the one I have in the front, but other than that I like the new ride. I also have a couple of 8' pontoons that I like for flat water and are a little easier to move around.

Yeah my experience is somewhat similar to LIT. Different toon/mfr, but same issue conceptually - i wanted to raise the seat relative to the standing deck so it's easier to get up & sit back down, but if the seat's too high it changes the rowing angle unless you can raise the oarlocks enough too. I was able to raise the locks maybe 3/4" w/ a stack of washers but that's all the free height left to extend, and like he said your rowing position still puts your grip a little too low in your lap or else it effectively makes the oars dig down at too steep an angle. I essentially need to solve my problem by lowering the deck (i.e., suspending it) rather than raising the seat, because the height of the locks is more or less fixed and dictates where the seat needs to be relative to that (along w/ the length of your oars).

It might work with longer oars..... I custom built some very nice 9' oars for my pontoon boats years ago and they worked great in larger rivers or a lake. But i did not have elevated seats... but .....that extra oar length sure makes maneuvering in tight spots more challenging. The Kelches and Wilson run was much better with 8' oars.....

You do understand that he also put on a trolling motor on boat so that he no longer needed the oars. Maybe you should had watched the video before answering with all that whatever it was.

Why are you guys responding without even watching the video? The guy put a riser on his seat but at the same time he also added a trolling motor and a battery. So he didn’t need the oars and they’re only there for emergencies. I have a Colorado pontoon boat with a 7 inch riser and swivel seat and a trolling motor. So did you guys ever stop to think about that before answering this question or trying to. Because you’re all wrong. Watch the video. There’s a trolling motor on his boat so he doesn’t need the oars. People sit here and make comments to this and the other didn't even watch the damn video.
