thought we were into an epic iron bite 80 miles west of westport, and then everyone started reeling up these things. Multiple stops they were just all over us. Pacific Amazon piranhas? Silver pelagic piranhas? We were trying to make up names. Anyone have an ID?

Never ate one. I'd have to land one first. Reminds me of Pompano which I ate alot when I lived in the Fla Keys.

important food sources for humans, blue butterfish(sounds scrumptious), The fish meat is white in color. specifically in Hawaiian cuisine. Sounds like you passed on a good eating fish.
Oh no I didn't mean to imply that. We kept 7-8 of them.

We caught about a dozen yesterday while jigging for Tuna, threw most of them in the kill bag, we could have kept getting them but I was after Tuna. My clients are going to give them a try. Maybe I should have kept 1 or 2 to try. Next time.
