I just stumbled over a device to remote steer a kicker either wired or wireless. Currently only considering wired version.

It appears to attach to the swim deck and via a servo works a rod. It may connect directly to the kicker mount, at this point not positive, still researching.

It sure looks like it meets my needs to just steer a Yamaha 9.9 for trolling. They make fresh and saltwater versions, would go for the salt version. There are other brands that do similar but seem more invasive on the boat and much, much more expensive. This unit is under $500 at Amazon Prime.

So if ya got one, lets hear how it works or didn't work. My other option is to build my own, which is very doable, just need resources for servo, etc., of that nature

Are you talking about the Panther T5 remote steering. If you are, it mounts to the end of your tilt tube on your motor., fast install. I have the T4 version, it came with the kicker when I bought it 5yrs ago. Its not the Saltwater version, but has been perfect even though it is in Salt 2x then is in fresh. I have the wireless and love it. My buddy had a different brand wired remote and that having a cord laying across the deck was not always out of the way. It turns lock to lock as fast as any others and rocking and waves have no effect on its position. I haven't had one issue with it. I like the T5 mounting configuration,, 90 degrees to the tilt tube,, for its compactness vs the older T4 version which was mounted linear with the tilt tube. When, if this one I have fails, I'll replace it with the T5. If there is a way for a Autopilot to intergrade, IDK,,,gregg

Yes, I bought a T4, not a T5. I have IO so the extra lenght is okay and I like the mechanical better on the T4.

Not only that, I ordered it on (no kidding) Thursday, expecting the free shipping to take a week, I got it THE NEXT DAY. What company? Why this place

Best price I could find anywhere.

I think I will take the boat out of the water to install it tho, as I have had dropsies really, really bad lately.

Mine is connected with a linkage, quick connect, the type with the ball and spring loader sliding coupler, not sure of the actual name. Like I said in my earlier post, I bought my 9.9 Merc used and the T4 was already mounted on the motor, I assume that is what is supplied from Panther. They turn pretty quick using the remote, so I would say by the time you popped a quick release off and turned by hand I would already be turned with the remote, I get what your saying without having witnessed one turning. You'll have a remote in your hand almost fulltime in wind, swell or current any way, in open calmer waters you wouldn't make as many corrections but still would make some as boats don't track straight on their own. My wireless has a long lanyard and I wear it around my neck, so its always handy, its pretty small so not a big deal. Hope this helps,,,gregg

Awesome product. Yes, both ends of the rod have quick disconnects, but must not be in any bind to release and be aware there is a tiny o-ring in there to keep the connection solid. But like they said above, the thing turns way fast.

In the cold and wind, that is the only way to troll. Yes you can get different version with throttle control. I don't need it yet. The cord is not a problem, there is so much I can run it around the gunnels and not have a issue.

Yes, I would buy it again and I recommend it to my friends and maybe even an enemy. Great product.

I am running a T-4. Had it for many years... Still work fine, wireless or on wire. Running on a Yamaha T-8. Controlling throttle RPM with a trollmaster.

Be sure to pull the main push/pull rod out and clean rod and housing thoroughly each year. Really clean that baby then completely replace all the grease.. This is not a place to save time or a few cents on material... Dust gets on the rod, mixes with the grease and can turn into a near concrete mixture. I did not do that a couple seasons ago and had to dismantle with a 3# hammer and punch...

Steering quickly responsive. The only thing slowing boat response is the kicker rpm...

I would not recommend the T-4, or any other remote kicker steering/throttle system, when trolling in tight quarters like mouth of Nehalem when the run is on.

Bringing this one back up.. I'm considering adding this in the off-season. I currently tie the kicker and big motor through a panther quick disconnect tube. It works great but is a little bit of a pain every time I pick up to run I have to disconnect and reconnect. THe benefit is that you are also getting the steering input from the rudder of the big motor. I'm curious if the steering control is lessened by not having the big motor attached? Also wanted to know if the unit interferes when the motor is tilted up?
