Guess you're right. I'll quit posting trip reports like other regulars have done.

Again right over your head.Guess you're right. I'll quit posting trip reports like other regulars have done.
Not at all! I came across around 12:30 before it became uncomfortable. I wouldn't have wanted to much later than that. You also crossed at 3:00 and thought the bar was flat?
Bottom paint damn near eliminates that completely. I made the investment and glad I did.Went out of Newport both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we got there in the morning, put in, parked the truck, cast off from the dock, put her into gear to head out…. put her into gear to head out…. oh crap! She won’t go in gear! I put a new water pump in the F115 this winter and didn’t line up the splined shift shaft when I put the lower back on. So we had to take it out, drive to my buddy’s place in Waldport, fix it, and then back to Newport etc. So we got a late start. It took about 45 minutes to get our 4 ling. Just bam bam bam, red hot.
I went out solo Sunday. The ling fishing was awesome, both days, but we only caught a half-dozen blacks total. Today I had my two nice ling in the cooler (probably caught around 10) and was trying to add to my rockfish tally but the ling kept hammering my little rockfish grub! It was a blast on my lighter rockfish spinning setup, but after a while I gave up and headed in. Came back in today around 3, right in the middle of the big ebb, and it was a bit sporty at the bar! Nothing crazy but some standing/stacked waves with whitecaps at times. Worked the throttle and surfed on in.
A 20’ aluminum boat sure is pleasant to launch/retrieve solo, at least when it’s as calm as it was today at the ramps. I like my boat.
I finally got around to cleaning the barnacle bases off my hull (pro tip: DO NOT get Barnacle Buster on your skin!!) and I could feel the difference. The boat just felt slicker in the water and more responsive to throttle. Sweet!
This is among the worst advice I've seen here. You're either trolling this thread, or in for a cold, wet awaking one day.You all realize they're calling for flat without saying flat sat and Sunday? If anyone cancels or doesn't fish because of forecast needs to truly reevaluate owning a boat. Bar or tide don't matter. Fact.
More than once we have had a net a the ready and boated a big ling with out it ever being hookedFishing has been good so far this spring. I was bummed about the Kings closing offshore but Lings peel the drag too if they are medium size and up. For us the most exciting thing was the follower fish when we reeled up a ling. Almost every one that followed was way bigger than the hooked fish. Could not figure out how to get bent on that larger bonus fish.
truth! We had that experience several times and one time (visually) a nice ling came off the hook by the boat and took it again...in the box he went!!!Fishing has been good so far this spring.
