No we are reef fishers off seal rock. the lings are spawning nearshore.
Fishing was 9 out of 10 with a long spell of continuous action which we started late at 10 am. Finished with 1 out of 4 limits of hard full crab on two sets of prospecting pots.

We had a Ling cod day for sure. One fisher had a hot rig hit it on the first 5 drops. I got a 7 pounder on a mooching rig, week old herring and a trolling sinker. Not so often when the lings outnumber the rockfish 5 to 1. Thanks for the tip on fishing shallow Gypsey Davey. We only get a few day a year where you can run however you want at any speed.

Comments on the bar crossing are pretty entertaining BTW. We fished in a very large group south of Newport and saw no visible swell, no lump at the bar or any wind. Only thing I would change is the almost full parking lot and trying to park a 60' truck and trailer. It is wise to respect the ebb on any bar but I don't get sweaty about the bar in Newport. It is usually good if it is not a full or new moon with the big ebb in the morning. Everyone has their limit on bar conditions. I would have crossed it Saturday on a pool toy.

Fishing has been good so far this spring. I was bummed about the Kings closing offshore but Lings peel the drag too if they are medium size and up. For us the most exciting thing was the follower fish when we reeled up a ling. Almost every one that followed was way bigger than the hooked fish. Could not figure out how to get bent on that larger bonus fish.
