I watched the Indian Fighter the other nite and liked seeing what places I have been looked like in 1955. Probably the most interesting thing was how high the Crooked river was at Smith Rock. This movie was about 6 years before Bowman dam was built.

Scenes from the Metolious, and a lot of other spots in the area also in the movie including a whitewater section that I think is between Crane Prarie and Wickiup. If anyone is interested I believe it is going to be on again March 17 on INSP.

Looking for when the movie was filmed I saw a facebook post from someone that lives near Camp Sherman and said one day someone knocked on there door and it was Kirk Douglas asking for directions. I guess he got lost.

My Grandma has a story about serving young Sally Field in the restaurant she was waitressing at while they were filming "The Way West". Grandpa was delivering paper goods to the movie set while they were filming too. I wish more western films were being made in that way, I like seeing that scenery.

One of my favorites has to be Rooster Cogburn, filmed all over Oregon on the Deschutes and Rogue.

Was watching a Jimmy Stewart movie one time and in one scene in a snow field, if they'd have moved the camera one inch to the left, it would have been a nice shot of Timberline Lodge. Other parts of the movie looked like they were shot along the N. Santiam above Detroit.

When I lived in Bend in the '70s, the Clint Walker TV series, Kodiak, was shot just a couple blocks from my house. A small cabin was erected on a vacant lot at the end of NW Cumberland.
I never heard of that series, I have seen a few episodes of "Cheyenne", not sure where that was filmed.

I used to watch Richard Boone in "have gun will travel" That series was filmed in the Bend area and almost every episode had the local rivers and I think all of the mountains in the scenery. Three Sisters, Bachlor and Black Butte all the time I believe.

Kodiak only filmed 4 episodes and one wasn't aired. The only reason I knew about it was driving by the street and seeing the yellow tape across it to keep traffic out while they were filming.

1967. A great childhood year in Bend. My team won the local, LL Baseball title. But The Way West filming was huge. I spent countless hours walking Drake Road because my young girl friend hoped to catch a glimpse of the movie stars that were staying in the Drake houses. Never saw a star, but it was more about young love for me. Lol.

The scenery is beautiful in The Way West, but the movie was corny. They must have passed and climbed the lava flow between Sparks Lake and Devils Lake at least twice, and trekked by Broken Top 2 or 3 times.

Years ago we were out near Sparks lake with our two Goldens and I took a few photos of them and the surrounding scenery. A few days later I was watching Rooster Cogburn and the area looked very familiar. I paused the movie and retrieved my camera and saw that were were very close to where some of the movie was filmed. I could even line up both scenes of the mountains and they were identical. We also later went up and walked around Todd lake where scenes were filmed, but time had changed the trees a little.

I don't know how they kept from tipping those wagons over up on Palmer Glacier. The so called "settlement" they were trying to get the food to was at Trillium Lake or Mud Creek before it was Trillium Lake. The movie was shot in 1952 and they dammed up Mud Creek in 1960 to create Trillium Lake. The one gunfight and wrestling match was shot in the Sandy River. It's amazing how much the trees have grown around Mt Hood since 1950, or even 1900 when looking at old B & W photos.

At one time there was western town built on the west side of the deschutes just N/W of Sunriver. Some John Wayne moves and others were shot there.

They built a fort out there somewhere also that was used in this Kirk Dougles movie and a few others in cluding "have gun will travel".

There was a James Garner movie filmed when I was in High school, at least some scenes were shot in my home town. Movie was called "the Promise" I remember watching them film some of it. I like the Central Oregon films scenery better though.
