I'm looking for a couple affordable, but not "cheap", reels to use primarily for tuna trolling. The hitch is they have to be left hand retrieve, as I'm one of those guys, and I strongly prefer a lever drag. 2 speed is not required but might be nice for halibut stops or fishing w/ kids. I came across the Okuma Cavalla, which seems impressive for the price point. The CAV 5IILX Left Hand seems to be available online for $274.99. Two speed, 24 lbs. max drag, size and line capacity seem to be about right. Has anyone used these reels? I can't find much in the way of reviews.

Other reels that I'm considering:

Penn Squall II 25N Star Drag LH - $114.19 on Amazon - Great price, but I'd prefer lever drag.

Penn Fathom 25N Left-Hand Lever Drag Conventional Reel - It looks like Penn has discontinued these, as I haven't seen them anywhere in a long time.

Shimano Torium 16 Left Hand - $249.99 - Great reviews, but a star drag. Seems to be more of a jigging rod.

Penn Fathom 25N Lever Drag 2 Speed Left Hand - $309.95 - Good price for a 2-speed, but more expensive than the Cavalla. Has good reviews.

Accurate Fury 500 LH - $342.90 - I have one of these reels and love it, but this is starting to get out of my price range for just a trolling reel.

Any other suggestions?

I have a few of the Metaloid 5Nii which is the old name but basically the same version of the Cavalla. I use it as a jigging and live bait reel but It should work just fine for trolling. They aren't quite as smooth as my Avets or Shimanos, but they are a quality reel that can take the abuse.

The fathom 2 speeds are nice reels for the price. In your hand the 30 doesn’t feel too much bigger so if you need more line for halibut, you might look at those.

I got mine from Charkbait and they put 300 yards of their braid on with purchase so that saves you some money.

Penn updated the fathom line a few years ago and then was slow to getting them out in stores.

I use 2 left hand retrieve Gen 1 Avet MXL's for trolling and like them. They do need to have the pinion bearing replaced every 2-4 seasons. Easy to do yourself. Might be something that has been fixed in the Gen 2

The 5N Cavalla (I have the metaloid and love it) seems a little small and more of a jigging reel. I'm sure it would work just fine for trolling. Looks like price goes up quite a bit for the bigger sizes
