What a TRIUMPHANT return to the game for Team eyeFISH! Copalis clams were showing en masse virtually screaming, “Take me, take me”. By far the BEST dig I’ve had the whole fall/winter season. While walking down to the water to clean up, there was a 12 ft diameter patch of sand where an entire limit could have been plucked!

A glorious day was had by all with limits around for the whole crew. If you weren’t wildly successful last evening, it may be time to find a new hobby.

Back at Chez Doc I spilled 2 jumbo 8 large and 5 medium onto my cutting table. Super nice grade of HEAVY clams. Fat fluffy diggers are a good sign that they are approaching the spawn. It was difficult to unzip the bodies without nicking those swollen diggers with the tip of my fillet knife!

The pic of that little cutie holding a clam with a face full of sand 😂

The following confirmed digs March 26 through April 3 will proceed as scheduled, after marine toxin results from the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) showed razor clams are safe to eat.

Might make it out for that last evening clamdig of the season with my Alaska crew on the 28th if they're ready for a break from hunting springers. Guns pounders and sacs packed in the truck.

Anyone headed out to the Oregon beaches this next weekend? Okay tides, but looks like the weather and the surf might be a little questionable. I'll evaluate as it gets closer.

Wow. Bottom of page two during huge low tides. Any reports or is everyone clammed out already? I hit Seaside today after a meeting and after the tide had already started to come in. Took me a little bit but found a limit of medium clams.

Buddy and girl friend went this morning. Also seaside. Struggled to get half limit. Said lots of folks did the same. Shows were scarce. That’s his report. Glad you got em clam. Did you pound them up?

I dig with a shovel so I did pound. Those who had clams were pounding. Those without or with few were not pounding. Always bring a pounder. You can’t always expect them to jump into your sack. Sometimes you gotta work for the treasure!

Headed down Sunday to Long Beach to clam Monday and today. Reports from home base were that Saturday was tough but Sunday was the opposite with obvious shows.

We headed to the beach Monday morning to fairly nice weather with a few showers. The shows were limited and pounding helped to find them. Like last year for us the size was what I would call medium to smaller, with a couple of decent ones.

We returned to home base and after cleaning clams and cleaning up ourselves, then headed to downtown Long Beach for some good chow.

Today we woke up to almost clear skies and colder temperatures. There was what looked like frost on roofs as we drove to the beach. The clams showed a little better today and we were done in short order.

I was a little surprised that the number of people clamming this trip during a good minus tide series, seemed quite a bit less than prior years.

Hit Seaside off 12th avenue yesterday, nice bar showing and pounded from one end to the other on both sides, I came up with 4 clams. Dry sand diggers were getting limits. Moved on to go surf perch fishing on Sunset and once on the beach we saw 5 commercial diggers working the back side of a bar in the water and digging away, we grabbed out shovels and my partner limited out, I only got 9. I have to figure out why I'm missing them so bad this year, 1st dig of the year for me. Only got one surf perch and had a few more strikes, the group just north of us were getting a few but it looked like it died for them too.

Three easy limits yesterday (30-40 minutes) at Sunset Beach. Pounding not necessary.

After two trips this year I noticed that we got medium and small clams down low during big minus tides. On the more moderate tides we were clamming higher on the beach and seemed to find a preponderance of big/jumbo clams. Anyone else experienced this?

We did three days( Monday- Wednesday) Long Beach Peninsula ……..one day each Long Beach, Klipsan, Oysterville. No pounding, all mediums. Limits in one hour. Great weather.

Nice grade of big clams on sunset beach today, calm and flat ocean. But boy did I have to pound to get my limit, forgot a glove and even got a blister. Fish monger made me forget about my blister with a good lunch. View attachment 1061040
Yup on the having to pound, was on that beach this morning as well and pounded out my limit but it took easy 2 hours+ to finally get it done. Good mix of clams and a beautiful day to be on the sand (y)

Easy limits of medium to large grade today not far north of Sunset. Sunny, no wind, the duck waders were definitely an overkill sweat machine. Not too much pounding, my buddy Chris Curtis with the gun found them up on the dry sand, I was picking them off in the surf.

Launched at Hammond after clamming and found one flat ocean with easy limits of nice grade rockfish and ling. Released God only knows how many Cabezon. Fun to fight I guess😂
