Ok been holding out mostly because I've been busy each day but I got a day off today, I started my b10 season Saturday and fished everyday through Tuesday. We have limited each day ,with lots of action. Fishing has been very very good, but it's also been different kind of year so far , typical year I follow the tides as it floods comes in, I go up higher with the fish, this year fish seem to be hanging in the lower river, and not holding up above the bridge (this may change) but my results all come low even at high tide. Saturday killed 5 kings 1 coho , released 9 kings and had numerous misses, Sunday 4 folks we killed 4 kings and 2 coho, released a bunch of stinky fish and missed way more than I want to admit, Monday killed 4 kings 2 coho , Monday quick 4 man limit of kings and released another 6 by 9am... this is shapping up to be a epic season.
Anchovies behind 360s are always on at least a couple of rods (top producers) hoochie spinners doing ok but not great. Old school skinnies are doing great always on a couole of rods , but those new skinny minnies have crushed them last two days.. I chop up anchovies in small pieces and mix with salmon slammer from pro cure its a killer for me. As far as colors spinners pinks and orange with painted blades have been good, stupid baits anything bright wuth pink tips like she and I , twisted sister and rotten banana. I will try and give report daily after I get off water.
And all river fishing. View attachment 1071877 View attachment 1071878 View attachment 1071879 View attachment 1071880 View attachment 1071881 View attachment 1071882
Looks like the same great fishing we have been experiencing, and we also have had the most success/action below the sands. We did get on a great bite right below the bridge oregon side last Monday that as we looked around there was at least one or 2 fish on around us steady for an hour+. Thx for detailed report

Per the dam reports, fall fish have started to pour over the dam. I'm learning that some fish have nothing but "GO EAST" on their mind, forgoing any enticing morsel that would normally get them to snap at it. I'm guessing aggression bites are going to be more prevalent as they progress east. I can't help but think sitting on the hook with a kwikfish would be lights out fishing. Boy that'd upset some trollers for sure!!!
I do think the transients getting metabolically transformed to accept the fresh water will still be snapping at baits so twirling an anchovie can't be wrong. Those who are willing to share success secrets are saying plastics and spinners are working as are helmeted anchovies down low. We found that to be true (all but on our last horrific excursion).
There's some good incoming tides this week but not many hold over tides, but big pushes in and out may help us keep "transients" around a little longer but hot temps east may deter some from swimming that way. I'm not sure what DFW or PFMC saw when writing forecasts, assigning quotas but common sense tells me we're in for a steller year. Convincing them is the issue. Size and quality have been very good table fare so far. I just don't know if we should jump at our chances now or hope "those" assigning us quotas/opportunities lets us keep fishing. Either way, tight lines and filled creel bags to all.

You always spank 'em in this fishery! Maybe one day I'll have to try to get on your boat for a lesson. I'm fairly certain we saw you at the dock as we were headed out Saturday morning. Should have just waited for you to leave and followed you around 🤣

Thanks for the detailed report and pictures.

Oh, and what depth on the line counters have you been getting them at?

We had most of our success from 30-45 on the counters on the incoming and down to 55-65 as the tide starts to turn and ebb. I prefer to fish the incoming so I plan my trips that way. PNW might differ so be good to hear his results. I'm also fishing 16's

A good morning for old fashioned mooching with the tide. In the 50's and 60's a lot of boats from the Church hole down to A Jetty would mooch using a banana weight and herring. Just let the tide and boat action work for you. A few would be trolling a plug. A lot of fish were caught using these methods, mainly Chinook. Now I don't see anyone doing either of these. Then again can you imagine the reaction if a few boats drifted mooching through the B10 swarm. It would be worthy of Youtube for sure, but you would need to bleep out the yelling.
Purest salmon fishing technique. A guy should be able to fish as he pleases, in peace. So much fun to feed those fish and feel that bite/tug.
on the same note, I’ll anchor fish as I please, within reason. Remember when trollers went through hog lines?

Day started hot, 6 fish between 6:50 and 7:20 am including a double , 1 coho in the bag, the rest released.
Caught 2 more high fins the next hour or so including a big beautiful URB, then it died for us , managed 2 more wild coho over the next 6 hrs or so, the big URB came on a pro troll e plug, the first fish for me on this lure.

Welllll after getting ALOT to the boat yesterday, today was a different story...yesterday's report first. Dropped in and trolled between markers 5 to 1. Had tons of take downs, too many fins, too dark, etc...but was able to get our 2 bright chinooks w/i about and 1 1/2 hours (just 2 on the boat). All using chovies with pro troll at 35 & 55 on line counters. Figured we'd try for some coho (caught some the day prior). After catching and releasing a few more chinook, we decided to head in and drop the wife off to watch the grandkids so my daughter could come out.
We dropped in at the checkerboard & headed around towards the bridge. Wham!! Big take down, daughter grabs the pole..fishi-on!! Immediately breaks the surface a couple of times so im thinking "yes!! a coho"...but then it makes a run, stripping line! She tries to stop it, nope. Keeps trying to stop it with her thumb and and slowly tightening the drag, but it's not stopping..finally she gets it turned & is gaining ground! "Dad, I think it just came off, yup it's gone!!😩. Redeploy and catch & release a few, few short bites, then finally 1 decent sized bright chinook in the boat, all before noon.
Today, started out by marker 5 to buoy 10. Had several short bites & drive-bys, lost a dink when it went airborne, 1 hard take down but nothing to the boat. Unlike yesterday, didn't see many nets today. Had to call it a day around 1130 to take grandkids to play at seaside.

We made one decent pass on the OR side for a couple hours midday today. Saw fish caught but no real bite anywhere. Just a few here and there. We released a nice hatchery tule and lost another fish. Most fish we saw boated appeared to be coho. Our gut tote wasn't real impressive today, seems like the bite musta been slower for most.

I hear those are great for soup base, and you don’t have to tag it..
I actually save all of mine for my wife's nail lady, a Vietnamese mother whose family loves that kind of soup...

In the late 50's anyone walking a tule over to the fish cleaning board at the West End Basin past dad would get this remark from him; Do you have a lot of cats at home?, Why? Well you're taking home cat food.

An update on my banana weight anchovy fish test yesterday. No flasher, nothing but the anchovy. Not a single bite in 2 hours not even a sniff. However if my screen was correct the river was full of bait. I finally gave in adding a tringle to the mix. Then pulled off the banana weight going back to a 16 oz ball on the slider. Another 30 minutes and nothing. Switched to a green dodger (still old school) in front of the anchovy and it must of been what the Coho that went into the box was looking for. I don't know what was going on yesterday but the fish on my MFD had no interest in bait.

I'm beginning to think we had that kind of day the other day Chuck. A day of "learning humility'. Reading, watching, hearing similar stories like yours makes me think when fish don't want to bite they just don't and won't.
Think of it this way: when you're done with a full plate of Thanksgiving dinner are you wanting another bite? HECK NO! Are fish so full they don't even want to see more food. I'm just guessing here but when bait is plentiful, fish bellies (the ones we cut into) were full, good luck getting a bite! Aggression bites is sometimes the best ya get no matter how beautiful that bait is. Maybe they're so full even aggression isn't in their game.
Ain't figuring out these fish fun!!!!! 🙂 o_O

Btw…. If anyone snags a nice big hoop net with a pool cue in the end of the handle out around buoy 12, I’d sure love to have that back. I had just put a new custom bag on it. Kirk

Btw… when I tested it. It floated fine. But…. I had a tough time getting close to it when it went overboard in rough water, and as the handle filled with water, she went down…. Next one I buy I’m going to fill with foam.
Should have called the Coast Guard for a net rescue. Lol
