I haven’t see the official thread started. If it has been I will delete.

Anyway. Plan on doing a shakedown on Friday. Although it may be a little chilly.

Daughter and I banked it down low on the oregon side of the Columbia today. 7 am till 3pm. Could count about 8 rods. I throw out pretty far and rarely hook steelhead head. Let about a 10lb native go. Only action we saw.

They been getting any action on the beach next to you, Plugs?
I guess 1 of my friends was plunking there too. He said 15 rods and no bell ringers

Made it out on Friday. 17 degrees at launch. 2 rods nothing. Trolled and anchored. Nothing. Still trying to get familiar with the new boat. Def going to need drift socks when sitting on the hook. Might give it another go this weekend.

Made a couple passes this morning. Snagged a smelt and that was it.

Had a monster take down that snapped a 1062 in 1/2 before I even had a hand on it. Probably a oversize sturgeon. 2 rods in the boat all day on the hook dark to dark and that was the only bite we got. On anchor and our best of our working plugs wrapped in tuna. Water temps is still at 38 degrees down here. Were going to wait 2 more weeks and pray for 41 degrees anyhow. There was only 1 other boat out our ramp and he was a newbie trolling triangles and spinners all day on the outgoing tide
We marked somewhere around 15 or so fish today that my guess was salmon which was far better than last Friday.
Curious why you have the drag set so tight it snaps your rod in half? Obviously you have been doing this a long time. I generally have my plug rods hand tight where I can barely pull line out by have, but I have at best a 50% catch rate. Trolling herring I run a loose drag.
I applaud your efforts and will be out when steelhead season is over.
Headed out at Day break. 1st few hours on the troll. Going to fish stuffer baits on the incoming till more fish show up. We've already burnt through 7 trays of green label.

Wasn't really set all that tight. The fish that hit was more than likely a huge oversize sturgeon just ripping down river putting on such pressure in the holder couldn't get the dang folbee to pop open

Just came out after work for a couple hours. Calm, pewter light &
snow on the surrounding hills. There’s actually a boat fishing below me a ways.

The Columbia is low, with 3-4 ft of pilings sticking above water, so I tied off wide of last year’s hot Lane-O-Death to find a bit more water.

I tied up an old M-2, inspired by comments in another thread, a beautiful Pacific Watermelon Maglip and “2022” - a K-14 Double Trouble that was a catcher last year when I bought it. All three got sardine….

Only going to run 2022. It makes the tip dance so.

Fished 7AM-5 PM solo today. Trolled Superbaits and Triangles thinking I needed to go slow as possible with the water temps still down at 38.7. 1st 2 hours on the troll with 2 different SB's and 2 Spinfish then K-Fish and tuna on the hook the rest of the day. Not much current on the outgo today. I had to make several moves till I had the wiggle on the rod the way I like. I went through 8 different plugs & Not a sniff all day fishing my best workers. Try again Friday

Too cold for me. If we get some nice weather, I'll be out there, otherwise, I'll be out there every day it's open in April.
I had trouble getting my pics to show right in post #29 above. Here they are:

Well I looked for the 23’ Springer thread and couldn’t find it… CCW must be sleeping in this spring. 😉

Shake down trip and let me say, there is a lot to shake down… 😂 Where is everyone? Airport to Cat and not a soul except for the usual hard core dudes at the end of Frenchies…

Water is warmer than the air…40deg. Trolling herring. No bites but have marked a few… hopefully some magic happens. Good luck this spring all.
