Any of my friends thinking about this week out of Newport? Looks like several good weather windows. I guess I should say, my "non-hunting" friends, since many are chasing 4 legged critters right now.

I'm hoping to fish 2 days (full or partial) this week. Text me if you are doing the same.

There are no coho in the ocean now. Only chinook, and "silver lingcod"

 

Planning on fishing tomorrow for halibut. The plan is to launch around 7am and head west to the CR if the ocean will allow for a decent travel speed.

 

You messed with my mind, Randy. You said CR and I was trying to figure out why you would launch at Newport and go to the Columbia River. Took me while to figure out you were talking about the Chicken Ranch.

We are going out tomorrow for bottom fish. Probably off the lighthouse for halibut, although I've fished that only twice and had no success. Not sure really where to go. We might try north reef for lings or rock fish, but again, I haven't fished it but a couple times and got only one ling for my effort. So it might be a day of prospecting.
I'm also looking at Friday, and an outside chance on going Thursday. I haven't caught a Chinook in two years so I doubt we will spend time chasing them.
The freezer is pretty much full so I'm mainly looking for some fun on the ocean.

 

 

Switched to hunt mode. Sadly, put the albacore gear up. Is it July yet?

 

Boat is STILL in my driveway with gear on it. Hard to admit it to myself…

 

Good luck Mark. I put my boat away for the season to force myself to focus on 4-legged game. Otherwise, I'd inevitably be distracted with boat work, forecasts, sat shots, and all the other glorious things that compose most of May-Sept...

 

We used to just call them the north chicken ranch, or south chicken ranch. I don’t even fish there anymore. There’s a reason they call it The chicken ranch. I hunt big fish.

 

The only thing I like less about the chicken ranch than reeling in all the dinky halibut is all the rockfish.

 

Was that Mark cruising through Philomath today from a possible fishing day. A nice Arima thinking it was you Mark. I was going into the PO office and waited a bit to see if it was you but couldn't make the driver out. Need to see your boat more for a positive ID.

BTW it was an absolutely beautiful day on the water yesterday. With the land breeze, the air was dry and warm. Pure sunshine. In tee shirts by 11 a.m.

Im just jealous you got out..lol..lost some rollers on my trailer..converting in over to bunks Friday..just in time for another tuna window and ready for the Bluefin migration!..all depth is open down here ..

 

Cliff, are guys still getting albacore out of Eureka?
