I agree thats why saying bulls shot on private shouldnt count its ridiculous. High fence is different
The only caveat I see is If it’s guided, the outfitter should be listed next to entry.

Where’d this guy come from? Going on the blocked list Think that guy that use to tell everyone he stuffed his pillows with the duck feathers he got and ground the duck bones into soup has shown back up under a new moniker.

No problem expressing an opinion, that's what forums are for.

That's a great bull. Public or private, still a great free range bull.

On more then one occasion on the drive out from hunting public land, I saw more game on private land. Hasn't anyone else experience this? Can be frustrating to say the least. Doesn't mean there's any 400 point bulls, it's just that odds has to be better filling a tag on some private land versus public.

This is a forum of opinions, correct? I am saying that private ground “trophies” should be at a minimum denoted as such in the book. Not the same playing field as public ground. Pretty simple to follow.
So if I understand you correctly (since this conversation is about oregon like you mentioned) we should have a special place in the record book for oregon private land animals and another for all record book animals that covers all states? 🤔
Private ground animals should not be considered for the books. Period.
Guess every whitetail in the books should be disqualified? You're funny.

That bull deserves and should get it's due respect, regardless of where it was killed. In my eye's a book critter is as much appreciation for the animal as accomplishment for the hunter (I do like the idea of noting an outfitter if used, anyone can shoot a gun). To say that bull doesn't deserve the respect of being what it was because of where it was killed is ridiculous.

As far as public vs. private there's usually a noticeable difference in game population and hunting pressure. It doesn't mean your gonna kill a big critter, or any critter at all, but it's a big enough factor that ODFW is asking the question on the harvest report.

I hope ODFW uses the information to make public land better. I also bought a lottery ticket and hope wins too.

I got kinda nervous just reading the article. Thought it was farther away on the first shot it was so huge! What a toad, nice and symmetrical. I'd say he deserves top spot in the OR book. Without any asteriks or question marks. I would dearly love to handgun hunt a bull of that caliber, during September.
But that's a long time to bleed out an animal. If we actually want to argue what's fair, I'd really rather go after 'em with a rope and a knife.
One of the reasons Modern season is so tough in E Wash is the elk have already had arrows and muzzleloaders, no, make that black powder, no, make that Pyrodex, shot at them.
While they are trying to propagate.
Primitive methods didn't involve rangefinders, razor blades, Rubicons, radios, etc.
At least they got to pack it out and didn't lose the animal.
Congrats to the hunting team, nice work guys!
Where’d this guy come from?
I was surprised to see how much we were spoon feeding the troll, and some pretty well-versed experienced contributors getting pulled in.

Some are coming around. Guided notation, private ground notation in book makes sense. All are an advantage of sorts. Its not a guarantee but it is usually limited pressure, better feed/water, etc. Hence the reason elk push to private during rut, heavy hunting pressure, weather etc. ChuckerDave I do like a nice firm down pillow🤣🤣
Congrats to the hunter

What an amazing bull!

I thought in the picture where he was packing out the head an horns, "Man, that must be a really small dude!" because it didn't look in proportion. I get nervous thinking about normal sized bulls!

The rifle bull killed in 2020 I thought the same thing. I saw a picture early on, before it had been officially scored. It was of him with the horns pointing towards sky packing it out on an open hillside, without anything for reference. I remember thinking these don't look proportionately sized to that human... They weren't lol

Hopefully this isn't taken the wrong way and doesn't make anyone really angry, but in my opinion that is a very nice elk.

Not trying to offend anyone, but sometimes I just have to speak the truth.

I remember that pic too. I saw those antlers in person a few days after it was killed. Unbelievable to say the least. Definitely a whole different caliber of animal

I think pics do make it hard to judge at times.....having only held a 300" elk I would imagine in person you would really be able to tell the difference of a bull close to 400". I really would love to get that chance!!
Sounds like all you have to do is keep your eyes on Private Property. They're frolicking in the fields....

He says with sarcasm dripping off the sentence.

I can testify that the elk and deer on the ranch are NOT easily hunted in any manner. And by the way, sometimes they are on the property, most times not. But I'm sure the trophy bulls just hang out up at coyote pass in the timber.

It’s like feeding ducks in the park..
