Na, probably because they were not in it for the wrong reasons. It sure does not guarantee a kill or a monster. It sure DOES eliminate hunting pressure and makes hunting much easier. The range of an elk is irrelevant. They go back to the same area year after year at the same times. If you knew anything about elk you would know that! Not the same playing field, period! Good stories though.
I hunt limited draw tags with limited pressure whenever I get the chance, what’s the difference?

Not salty at all. Awesome bull! Why don’t we just allow high fence to be entered as well? Does everyone who draws a tag for that unit have an opportunity for that bull? Is there an advantage to the hunter on private ground? Absolutely! It should not be allowed to go in the books. Period.

Disagree.

There are no limited entry hunts in Oregon that are low / no pressure. The only time you would get similarity is with a premium, raffle or gov tag when no other seasons are on. If you own or have access to well managed private ground that boarders quality public elk habitat and you are the only hunter you have an advantage! Period, just face it.

You know that there are other states that have big game animals and seasons right, at least that’s what the record books say.

A big bull or big buck doesn’t magically become tame when they cross a fence. Most elk in Oregon on private start getting shot at in August and stop getting shot at in January. You’ll have less pressure on private, if you’re typically unsuccessful on public, you’re typically going to be unsuccessful on private.

I do know there are other states that have game and most are managed much better than Oregon. I am also pretty sure this conversation was about the OREGON record bull that was shot on PRIVATE. Have you ever been on private ground like Cunningham Sheep or the Shilo Ranch in Oregon?? Please let me know the hunting pressure and elk numbers is the same on those lands🤣🤣 The average hunter would be more successful on private ground with way higher numbers and no pressure. Pretty simple to figure that out.

I mean read the story and it will prove my point. His buddy found the bull for him, the dude missed the bull bad, it ran 80 yards, he played with it for hours, then made another poor shot and it ran across the field, he started chasing it in his socks, went back got his boots, the bull finally suffered and died after a long while. Lol.

Hunt Oregon guides the Cunningham sheep land, plenty of critters get killed off of it guided by guys who hunt it 4 months a year.

Don’t know anything about the Shilo.

I’ve hunted a lot of good private, some of the best of it where I’ve killed my biggest deer is walk in public access timber.

I know that of the same amount of effort was put into a piece of public that guys put into private the outcomes could be different.

Anyways everyone is entitled to their opinion.

This is a forum of opinions, correct? I am saying that private ground “trophies” should be at a minimum denoted as such in the book. Not the same playing field as public ground. Pretty simple to follow.
Whatever you say man you seem to think 400 bulls are under every tree on private property🙄. Like I stated before I have shot 18 bulls and my 5 biggest were my general tags not on our property. But you seem to think its a gimme. Hope youre right and next year there will be book bulls standing around just waiting for me to shoot one

There’s so much that goes into a bull making 400”. Age, feed, genetics and elk aren’t like whit tails you can keep on your ground, bulls travel allot.
