Not salty at all. Awesome bull! Why don’t we just allow high fence to be entered as well? Does everyone who draws a tag for that unit have an opportunity for that bull? Is there an advantage to the hunter on private ground? Absolutely! It should not be allowed to go in the books. Period.

Its not at all about jealousy or misconception. I have plenty of wall hangers that came from both public and private. Some are book from private but I would never enter them. There could very easily be “categories” for the book that denote area taken. I am sure that bull lived on public at times as he was killed not far off it. Hopefully where the hunter had permission. 🤣

Not saying anything about being the best hunter. Just each to their own I guess. I am sure there are a lot of old timers who shot tons of “book” animals and never entered them because it was not a big deal. If you want the recognition more power to ya.

Na, probably because they were not in it for the wrong reasons. It sure does not guarantee a kill or a monster. It sure DOES eliminate hunting pressure and makes hunting much easier. The range of an elk is irrelevant. They go back to the same area year after year at the same times. If you knew anything about elk you would know that! Not the same playing field, period! Good stories though.

There are no limited entry hunts in Oregon that are low / no pressure. The only time you would get similarity is with a premium, raffle or gov tag when no other seasons are on. If you own or have access to well managed private ground that boarders quality public elk habitat and you are the only hunter you have an advantage! Period, just face it.

I do know there are other states that have game and most are managed much better than Oregon. I am also pretty sure this conversation was about the OREGON record bull that was shot on PRIVATE. Have you ever been on private ground like Cunningham Sheep or the Shilo Ranch in Oregon?? Please let me know the hunting pressure and elk numbers is the same on those lands🤣🤣 The average hunter would be more successful on private ground with way higher numbers and no pressure. Pretty simple to figure that out.

This is a forum of opinions, correct? I am saying that private ground “trophies” should be at a minimum denoted as such in the book. Not the same playing field as public ground. Pretty simple to follow.

I mean read the story and it will prove my point. His buddy found the bull for him, the dude missed the bull bad, it ran 80 yards, he played with it for hours, then made another poor shot and it ran across the field, he started chasing it in his socks, went back got his boots, the bull finally suffered and died after a long while. Lol.

Some are coming around. Guided notation, private ground notation in book makes sense. All are an advantage of sorts. Its not a guarantee but it is usually limited pressure, better feed/water, etc. Hence the reason elk push to private during rut, heavy hunting pressure, weather etc. ChuckerDave I do like a nice firm down pillow🤣🤣

I recall being one of the first to spot the 420+ bull a few years back. Tons of video, and hours of just watching him frolicking with his heard. Soon, more and more people started showing up/heard about him and saw him.
I recall vividly watching guys slash tires, running in groups down canyons in the dark and getting in fist fights over this bull. (Bet you don’t see that on private). Then the 400+ bull, two years ago, that was shot off the road by an old man, same story.

Moral of the story: all the giants are not on private, but if they are, there is sure an advantage. Just face it!
