Hey guys headed to the nehalem next week, we plan on crabbing, chinook fishing and generally enjoying our time. I am wondering if guys jig for rock fish and lings by the jetty? Is it productive? Any help would be wonderful, thanks sam .

What what Ive heard, rock fishing is sporadic at best, usually poor, I think it's just not the best habitat. Summer chinook are showing up now, crab should be around, maybe surf perch (don't know, never tried)

Do it right...Rent a boat at Kelly's Brighton Marina. You can crab right there or head towards the jetty or even go upriver to the state park. It's all good crabbing water. Do NOT go to the Jetty Fishery Marina. They charge you to breathe their air.

Last year I got out there once for crabbing/salmon. Caught tons of big females but the males were thin, also tons of boats out there crabbing. Had our pots pulled on the last and our longest set. Keep an eye out!

agreed but the jetty is closer to the crabs if you are using their docks.

and in neither place, the related to each other owners are getting rich or driving around in cadillacs.

so charging too much may be relative to what one thinks.

my house is only a few blocks from the south jetty and I have fished it often. my best advice is get some sand shrimp, cut in half and place on a hook, add a little wt about 10" above bait. wait for last hour of either tide and fish in the rive by lowering the bait into holes between rocks. lots of nice blue stripped perch. great eating. a long rod helps you dangle it into the right spot without ever getting snagged. watch for waves though, always be aware and dont get too close to the water.
