Any reports on Chinook/steelhead on the Necanicum right now? I'm going to be spending a lot of time near the river soon and was wondering if it's even worth packing my salmon gear. Not sure how the runs have been the past couple of years. Might just focus on crab, flounder, and surf perch if it's been slow.

That river’s Salmon run is soo decimated and the amount of smolts released is not very much. I’ve fished that river for salmon for 20+ years. The last 4-5 years is much a do about nothing for Chinook.
Best bet is tossing spinners at the mouth for catch n release wild coho. If you catch a chinook, go buy a lottery ticket 🎟

Steelhead doesn’t start until late November on a good year.

That's sad to hear. When I fished it last year I saw hundreds maybe even thousands if fish rolling right under the 12th Ave bridge. Maybe it's just mostly cutthroat, but that's good to know. I'll stick to flounder and crab this time around. Thanks for the response!

And watch people hooking theses wild coho with barbed treble hooks , pulling the fish up the mud bank, kneeling on them, trying to get those spinners out of the fish’s mouth, bye this time the gills and mouth are packed with mud, now they hold it up for a picture, beautiful pictures of a mud, slime and bloody fish, now watch the fish float belly up down the river, not my idea of fishing.

Got out there Sunday. Saw a couple bright coho rolling throughout the morning, but as expected no biters when they're rolling. Did see a huge dark Chinook fly straight out of the water, which was pretty awesome. Hopefully I can get out there next month when the run gets better. Thanks all
