Hi all, has anyone hit the N. Santiam in the last few days, if so any luck? Also, does anyone know when the recycle the fish down to Mehama?

It's been slow as of late. Actually its been slow for most of the summer. The fish are there but I think they have forgot to bite stuff. They haven't been doing much with the recycling.

Last week I got a couple of hits on a pink plastic worm on a jig head at dusk. One of them pulled the worm right off the hook. Gotta remember a stinger hook next time.

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">No more steelhead will be recycled this year. There are so many salmon at Minto Dam that the steelhead are not anywhere around the trap anyway. There are, however, concentrations of steelhead below Packsaddle Park and extending down to Minto Park. Some of the wild fish are being put over Minto Dam, so they will spawn clear up to Big Cliff. Some are being taken to the Little North Fork. It will be easy to get a full quota of salmon eggs.

Fall caddis bugs started hatching earnestly several days ago. In the morning Tuesday it was cool and cloudy with only midges hatching. Around 4:00 p.m. at Mehama the sun came through and the warmer conditions caused lots of 3" wide caddises to hatch simultaneously. As we pulled the boat out at the Mehama ramp, a nice trout surfaced and gulped one of the bugs. Some excellent catch and release trout fishing is coming up! There were steelhead scattered here and there all the way from Fishermen's Bend to Mehama, but activity level was low. As the river warms up some, the bite will improve. This week, temperature is better around Mehama and Fishermen's Bend with the largest numbers of Steelhead around Minto Park.

not much happening here. Fished tuesday & thursday with no luck. found some spawners at minto, 3 steelhead laying below 'em, but they wouldn't take anything. Nothing happening at fishermen's bend. No fish on the little north fork. no fish below the line at packsaddle, they are all stationed on the tailout right above the boat launch, probably near 30 steelhead there on the tailout as of 8/28.
