First off, a huge hearty THANK YOU to our gracious host, Maverick Maxcat and his amazing deckhand Sea Jypzee. We had a BLAST!!!!

The day started off with a drive out to the Banana. We had a couple hook ups, but nothing too exciting. We got diverted by a call on Ch. 16 of a boat in trouble, so we pulled up our gear and headed out on snotty seas about a mile to render aid. At the last minute, and with a coast guard heli in sight, we were called off. Apparently the small boat in trouble changed it's mind.

Anyway, it was back to the Banana for some more Halibut action. The bite was hot, and within minutes we had FISH ON! Mrs. Small Fry, AKA Lori, had an epic battle on her hands.

She wasn't about to give in to a dumb ol' fish, no matter how much it fought. For every yard of headway, the fish would peel off two. After a tough battle lasting nearly an hour, the fish finally showed himself.

TAILHOOKED!! It was amazing the fight this fish put up. Lori is my hero for pulling this bad halibut out of 700 feet of water.

So, after limits of Halibut for all on board, we headed further out for some tuna action. It was a laugh a minute as we had doubles, triples and quads! Nancy's "firewood with a metal hook" (the famous cedar plug) got lots of bites, and pretty much everything else we used. We lost track of how many fish we had.

We headed in when we were Tuna'ed out. Some napped on the way in (I was nice and didn't photograph the evidence :)). We unloaded our catch.

Here's Shari's 'but (ha!)

And we all posed for a photo of the first Ladies Day.

What a great day. We ended up with a couple good sized Halibut (47" and 45") and some respectable mid 30's, and 20+ tuners. I hope to do it again soon! Thanks to everyone for a wonderful day of Catching. It doesn't get much better than that.:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

To say the least Lori had a ball. I asked Mark how long the trip would be since I was staying on shore waiting. He said whenever the ladies wanted to quit. I told him I was afraid I would never see Lori again.

23 tuna and 5 Halibut was final count of which we ended up with 19 tuna and 1 halibut. It only took Lori and I 3 plus hours to fillet all our fish. Not bad for rookies.
Lori said she will add some pictures and more of the stories tomorrow

A big thanks to Mark for putting this together and Nancy for running the deck.
Wow what a great trip! That is one fishy looking machine. Good for you guys pulling up to go help another boater in distress.
Mark,

I am going to show Steph these pics just so she knows what she missed!

Great Report . Thanks for sharing!
Looks like fun was had by all - glad the boat in distress wasn't in that bad of need - Leave no Dog Behind - you saw how it all works.

Looks like the butt fishing was good - tail hooked anything is a battle - sure wish Mrs C could have gone, but it just wasn't in the cards. Next time!
Very Nice!!!

I bet you Lady's are whooped after a great day like that. Maverick's boat is one of the best I've heard for our waters, a nice ride.
Way to go
I'm saying my prayers that there might be a Second Ladies' Day either after I've accrued some vacation or on a weekend day! WOW, nice work, ladies!

Mark the skipper said he was going to set up another ladies day on a weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather holds.
Great job getting the Ladies into some fiah Mark. Now if I can talk my wife into the next one.
It really was a load of fun. Mark is a great captain, and we all had a lot of fun. She'll love it if she goes out.

Sounds like a neat trip. Gossip, fish, gossip, fish, fish, gossip, gossip some more, fish.:jester:

REally though it sounds like the ladies had a great time without any bachelors showing them raise and reel techniques.:agree::jester:

Nice job.
Gossip? We don't need no steenking gossip! :) We were too busy catching fish for that nonsense.

Mark told me they were tell girl jokes that made him blush. ( Guys got nothing on these girls ) I can't repeat what he told since this is a family show.

Mavrick was just one of the girls!
I'll tell you what, the Ladies aren't the only ones that had a great day! This is one of the hardest-fishing crews I've seen. At one point Sherrie was pulling the center handline, next to the transom door, when the fish made a run. Instead of feeding line, or letting go--it's tied to the boat, of course...--she held fast and ended up doubled over the door:shocked:. Nancy and I happened to be on either side of her, we both reached down to grab a shoulder at the same time, and stood her back up. She just kept pulling like nothing happened.

The first few tuna were singles, to get the program down. By the time the triples and quad came along they had the over-under-doe-see-doe of the tuna dance down pat. Thanks to Nancy's swimbait skills on the slide we got 1 quint! (that's 5 for the latin-challenged). Her hali-hooking skills were also ably demonstrated, with 4 on at once....

It was a pleasure and an honor to be "one of the girls" for a day. I'm looking forward to doing it again. To the "E Ladies" (JuliE, LorI, SherriE, NancY)

Mark,

As I told you that day, any time you need a deck hand and I'm not either working or out on the salt in my own boat, just gimme a holler and I'll be there. Your boat is a pleasure to work and ride on, and you are truely a great skipper.

I have to say, I did have lots of fun hooking fish and handing them off to let the other girls do the work of reeling them in. :D
