i have an 8 hp johnson kicker motor and it is VERY stiff to lift. i was wondering if any of you gurus could tell me how to make it easier to lift. i am assuming that the hinge point, which has a long bolt running through it, must be disasembled-cleaned-regreased. not sure though. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you found a grease zerk on the tilt tube? On some motors you can give it a shot of grease and then repeatedly raise and lower the motor to get it lubed up without having to disassemble it. It's been a while since I had a Johnson so I don't recall how it's set up.

indeed it does have the zirk you speak of. that was my first point of attack and yet it remains very hard to tilt. that is why i was wondering if disassembling that hinge point (where the zirk fitting is) and cleaning all that out and starting a new would make any difference.
thanks for the reply though:cheers:
