Finally had a chance to get the boat out and fished Merwin this week. I thought I'd use in line weights instead of the downriggers. I have always used 10 feet of depth for each oz of weight as a guide for trolling. Marked fish from 20 to 50 feet. Tried 2 oz, 3 oz and 4 oz banana weights. Pretty slow, we did get 3 Kokanee and one nice Rainbow. Seemed to die around noon, fished till 2.
Wondering if 4 oz of lead and 50 ft on the line counter is putting me at 40 feet (traveling about 1.2 mph)?
Appreciate a refresher on the dynamics of using the inline weights to hit a certain depth.
