Comment: Fact or fiction????? A friend told me that the Japanese were buying some Northwest Indian Tribes nets, in return for the fish they are taking. Or just buying from the Indians direct.
Are we losing our fish through a loophole?

_______________

Anyone answer?

I doubt the Japanese would want the fish from those nets when they can by high quality ocean caught salmon. If they were buying Indian salmon they wouldn't be selling them for just pennies on the side of the road....

I do know that the Japanese buy those chum eggs, only the eggs. The fish are thrown away but the eggs bring huge prices, more that the flesh of most salmon.

I worked at a hatchery in Alaska that raised chum salmon and we too dumped the fish but sold the eggs. The chum eggs are supposed to have the best texture for salmon caviar.
