I loved my helix 5. Then it took a **** on me after 2 years (water got inside without ever being submerged or anything) Doubt I’ll go back to hummingbird. They just are not sealed very well.

Also, you have to buy the navionics chip to get the layouts of the land. But I don’t think the standard G2 has that capability

I bought one from Fisherman’s on Saturday. Used it yesterday on the Columbia. So far, I really like it, it will just take me awhile to figure out all of the settings and features. I really like the picture clarity and color spectrum. It’s like going from a SD to HD tv. The menu seems easy to navigate and options are easy to figure out.

I couldn’t justify the extra $150 for the gps model. I figured that I can eventually buy the speed wheel, but in the meantime I’ll just use the speed app on my phone.

My only complaint so far, which is my fault; is that I mounted the transducer in the same spot as my old one, which apparently is not the correct height. Whenever I would get on plane yesterday, I’d get a huge rooster tail of water behind the boat. Hahaha

So this doesn't havd gps?? I bought one today..abd says gps as in speed. Pic attached. Shows speed. I returned Lowrance Hook 2 cuz it was too small...the pic quality was crappy and in manual mode depth was very erratic....returned to Cabelas and got this from sportsman on 82nd for 199.99 on sale...I used the menu and color charts at display....no comparison...lowrance is just way too cheap graphics looking.....for me atleast.
I mainly bought for kokanee fishing...orange lungs glow better on hummingbird...

No gps on that one. Speed is an “optional” feature, which you have to buy a speed sensor wheel, but from the reviews I’ve read, the sensor wheel isn’t very accurate under 2mph. I think I may just stick with my gps app on my phone.

This one was $199 at Fisherman’s and $20 off with military discount. The Helix 5 w/ chirp and gps was just under $350. That model might be less at other places.

Thnx Roady! Returned it back. I'll wait a tad bit till I see something better. Its a small boat snd just needed something inexpensive. I am in market for bigger boat but that'll be more towards fall. I just needed colored for kokanee fishing. I do have a black and white unit which works great and has helped put a lot of fish on my boat.

I think the down imaging is what I want. Hummingbird Helix 5 DI GPS G2 is what I'n leaning on. Is Lowrance' s fish reveal is Himmingbird's down imaging equivalent?? I mean pic wise. Would like to see the most realistic image..fish, lures, rock structure etc. I think down imaging provides it. I'm still open for suggestions for upto $400 budget. Will pull the plug by tomorrow or so!

I pretty much avoid like the plague anything that says Hummingbird on it. Have owned fishing boats for 30 years now and have had a few different Hummingbird models. Problems with every one of them. In my opinion Garmin and Lowrance make much better products.
