In Memory of Gerald Ervin Stomps "Jerry"

Jerry had a passion for fishing especially for salmon at Buoy 10 and in the ocean; he also loved steelhead fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Jerry was a son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. He was a man of undeniable faith. Jerry was outgoing and could talk to anyone he met. He was passionate about his love for his country.

Jerry will be in our hearts forever and never forgotten.

My dealings with Jerry were just buying Christmas trees from him. Very good quality and price. Loved to see his amazing "trophy" room. Drooled over his nice boat, never realized he was such a fisherman. What I thought were exaggerations were in fact just the unvarnished truths on his experiences. Such a sad story of his passing.

Jerry had a strong love for fishing! For many years he spent several days during the month of August Salmon fishing at Buoy 10, on the Columbia River and in the Pacific Ocean near Astoria, Oregon.

In memory of Jerry, his friends and family have purchased a granite paver with his name inscribed. The pavers are placed in the courtyard at the base of the Astoria Column. The views from the Astoria Column overlook all of Jerry's favorite fishing spots in the area.

Jerry's granite paver will be inscribed:

GERALD E. STOMPS
"Fish-On"

The Astoria Column has served for over 80 years as a beacon on the Pacific Northwest Coast. It sits in a wooded area 600 feet above sea level on Coxcomb Hill, Astoria's highest point. Majestic views of the countryside surrounding Astoria and the great Pacific Ocean to the west and the mighty Columbia River to the north. Snow-capped volcano, Mt. Rainier in the Cascade Range rises to the east and Saddle Mountain reaches to the sky on the southern horizon. To see the beautiful view or for information on how to order a paver:

The engraved granite paver was placed at the base of the Astoria Column September 2010 in memory of Gerald E. Stomps.

We are so grateful for a beautiful, peaceful place to remember Jerry. A place full of many happy, fun-filled memories of fishing and vacationing.

With love,
Jerry's family and friends

It is hard to believe this was our third year fishing Buoy 10 without you. You would have loved the BIG Chinook run this year. Fishing all your favorite places in the Columbia River was phenomenal! Your presence was felt. We caught a “big one” just for you! We are forever grateful for the wonderful tradition you started with our annual salmon fishing trip. You are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. You live on in our memories!

God bless you!
