Hi everyone,

I’m new to this whole forum thing and have been searching for an answer to a question I have..

I purchased a used Lews Fuji Speed Stick casting pistol grip rod handle off eBay for cheap but I cannot seem to find a stand alone rod to go along with it. Are there any companies that sell after market rod sections for that handle or am I stuck searching ebay for eternity?

Can you clarify, are you looking for a blank to build your own rod using the handle along with other components (guides, a bushing, thread etc?) Depending on the specifications for the blank you want, it should be pretty easy to find the components. If you’re looking for a completed/built rod that fits that handle, you’re probably out of luck since that style is handle looks like it needs to be epoxied to a bushing at the base of the blank.

thanks for the speedy reply! I was looking for a built rodto just slide in but if that’s not doable ive always wanted to try my hand at building a rod.
There’s a sub-forum here that can probably help get your started down the rabbit hole. Enjoy!

Had a few rods with those grips back in the 1970s . Was hot bass gear at the time . Unless you are wanting a retro bass outfit do your self a favor and build a more modern rod . If you have good tinkering skills a blank bushing could be cut down to fit the handle opening . There was a single o ring on the bushing for friction fit that went into the handle and the blank was glued to the bushing so you could change out handles , there were several different types / lengths . Keep in mind the blanks were larger diameter before the graphite revolution . Then you would need to find a Lew's / Shimano speed spool BB-1 or BB-2 reel to finish out the retro outfit . Good luck in your endeavor . WR

I used to have a couple of rods like that a long time ago. All the old speed sticks had handles that came off like that (both spinning and casting rods). At the time they were pretty awesome. I loved the parabolic action of the rods but they were lost when I moved to Oregon 25 years ago :(
Best garage sale deal ever! I picked up a like new 1500 C Ambassaduer on a Lew's Speed Stick rod for $25. I immediately sold the reel for $150 and gave the rod to a friend, who is a bass nut, to hang on his wall.
