I got the FoodSaver Ultra quite afew years ago and it's still going strong. It doesn't have any of the bells and whistles of all the other models they've come out with since then. It would make a great X-Mas gift, IF you know for sure the person getting it would use it for sure. I pretty much only use mine for smoked fish and large packs of meat from Costco. Bags are expensive so be sure and get a couple of boxes of bags too, Costco is the best for bags as far as I know.
