I had to tie this one on a smaller hook as to get it all in the picture frame. I originally tied it on a McNeese #1 Blue Heron Iron. Inspired from a Ally's shrimp and tied to catch Northern Pike while I was on vacation in Ukraine. Not only did I catch my 1st ever bucket list Northern but caught the 2nd & 3rd while I was there.
used pheasant tail for the tail fibers — I have size 14 whiting 100s for the hackle so the fibers aren’t really long enough to use as a bundled fiber tail. I considered CdL but liked the color of the PT.
Notes to self: Wow, this was hard! I kept having the post thread unwind on my if I didn’t hold the post in place. Do the tail and the rear dubbed body before adding the hackle. It really gets in the way. Also need to do a better job of covering the post base with the dubbing. Happy with the post wing & hackle, tho.
