Fishing for kids?

My grandson lives in Ridgefield and wants to catch just about anything, but especially a bass.
He's just beginning and I'm an Oregonian (and a salmon/trout guy), but want to take him somewhere this Saturday for a few hours.
I was going to try Battleground Lake, but it may be crowded on a weekend with swimmers and I was told the fishing isn't that good this time of year.
I was also told Klineline's back pond would be worth a shot.
I don't have the time to take him to Silverlake.
Is Klineline my best bet?

For a little guy I'd introduce him to smallmouth on the Columbia instead of ditch pickles in a lake. More action and better fight. Either side of the river above BON.

I second the recommendation for the Columbia above Bonneville if low wind speed is forecast. Smallmouth fight twice as hard as largemouth.

Thanks...I know about smallmouth closer to Bonneville, but I don't have a lot of time and need something relatively close to Ridgefield.

mayfield lake was stocked recently, might have some luck there

Plenty of smallmouth on the Columbia near Ridgefield, but bank access might be hard. Could try to find a spot on Lake River. Will definitely find smallmouth if you take a boat to Multnomah Channel.
