quality rod holders and an appropriately set drag is all that should be needed, i hate rod leashes!

No. It was the one I was using after storing the one that wouldn't retrieve. My neighbor was beside me and grabbed it right away, don't know how I dropped it but did.

 

There are a bunch of choices on good old Amazon... I have a set that I made up with para-cord. They can save a fishing rod/reel setup in case of a hard strike if you are jigging, baiting, or casting swim baits, as well as in the event of a rod holder failure. Don't ask how I know......

Or if you grab the net ( in the middle of a Coho Rodeo ) and it gets caught on a rod in a rocket launcher and you loose a $ 500.00 Avet and a nice rod
Probably wouldn't have a leash on a rod you were not using at the time

 

'Just one more' ditto, last trip salmon fishing my buddy got excited and just grabbed without looking. Flying through the air is a rod and reel and some good words.
We have Folbe rod holders and my buddy was unhooking a halibut raised up his head hit the end of my favorite rod and over it went. Wish I had a safety net then, lock the Folbe. One also lost to a breaking Scotty rod holder. So 2 times I could have saved some money with rod leashes. Just like the above statement not really fond of them.

CK triple leash set. Bought on Amazon 3 pack works well. Saved rod and reel when holder broke on halibut. Campingandkayaking.com. salt water tough and soft enough to wrap on rod.

 

I made my own. Bought some good quality stainless snaps and watched a YouTube video on how to splice an eye in a line. Super easy and makes you feel like an old salt. . .

 

I made some using tuna cord. I haven't used them yet but they are pretty clean with and eye on one end and a small stainless carabiner on the other.

I got mine from Burnwiin.

 

I have a couple rod tethers used to attached the rod and reel to the rail when trolling. They are blue, and about 1” wide. Not at home, so can not look at brand. They have sore of a clamshell clip on the ends. Works great for a safety line on reel.

 

Made my own out of paracord. Found a how-to on utube. But most of the time I'm using reels I upgraded from old standard Penns and relatively cheap poles. If I go out with my high dollar stuff I clip them.
