Thinking of buying an electric winch for my driftboat trailer to help with the unimproved takeouts. Any body tried this?

I think a hoist type system without the need for a battery would be better.

I've never heard of it being done. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

Tie a rope to the boat and pull it behind the trailer to where you want it, back up to boat and crank onto trailer.(Assuming you are on soft material and only going a short distance ...100' or less.)

Thanks for the tips...already tried them. The problem at hand is the last 25 or so feet. Pretty steep angle and the last 15 feet kills me to handcrank. Very steep angle, little or no footing for leverage, crank handle about shoulder height. I am sure you can appreciate my problem. I think I will purchase a 2000lb winch see if it does the trick. Will post results. Again, thanks to all.

A cheap way that might work. Is buy a few large pulleys at REI type stores with climbing stuff. Buy a few hundred feet of rope and set up a 3 to one or more and attach it to the trailer or your truck. Cheaper and works to help out with lot's of weight. My .2
