Hello - The East Fork Lewis River Reconnection Project breaks ground this week. It is a two year restoration project that spans three river miles from Lower Daybreak Park to just downstream of the Ridgefield Pits (Cemetery Bend). The in-water work window is April 15-Oct 15. During this work window, Clark County has closed access points to the river for construction and the Daybreak boat ramp will be for take-outs only -- it is a mandatory take out point for all boats. During construction, a temporary bridge will be installed with limited clearance, a coffer dam will be built, and a temporary channel will be created to facilitate the de-watering of the Ridgefield Pits for restoration.
Project updates, including access info, can be found here on the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership website (I cannot post a link due to site rules for first time posts)
Please help spread the word.
The project has three main goals: restore salmon and steelhead spawning and rearing habitat that was lost due to gravel mining and the river's avulsion into the Ridgefield Pits during the flood of 95/96; reduce flood risk and erosion impacting homes and businesses long the river; and to improve public access to the East Fork (this land is part of Clark County's long term vision for a greenway trail along the river)

thank you
