Do you use a swivel or tie directly to spoons?

Just wanted to get some ideas or pointers on attaching a spoon to the leader when trolling for trout or Kokes. I've been running a swivel on my main line and then varying my leader length depending on the situation. But, really wondering if most people use another swivel at the lure for ease of changing out, or tie directly to the spoon/lure to keep it clean.

A swivel on spoon type lure will often interfere with the action; especially if the spoon does not have a split ring to attach to. You can best determine this for each type of lure yourself by tying the lure with and without the swivel and holding it in the water watch the difference in the action.
A swivel between the main line and the leader is a good idea because Kokanee often spin and turn when coming in. I don't think it is necessary however.
If you spoon is turning in full circles you are going too fast for that particular spoon.

You did say "a spoon". If trolling with a spinner a swivel somewhere on the line is critical because the spinner will twist the line. When trolling spinners I like to have some sort of keel in the form of a small keel weight (or banana weight), or plastic keel like those on the front end of Ford fender type flasher rigs to prevent the main line from twisting.

For stock lake trout I often use a ball bearing swivel to change out the spoon quickly as I have not seen much difference in bite when fishing trout from lakes. Fishing in rivers for wild trout I will not use a swivel. These wild trout seem to have a better eye for natural movements. Kokanee I often tie directly to the spoon as well and not use a swivel. I rarely fish Kokanee since I don't have a down rigger but with my limited experience I personally don't use swivels and never use them for salmon either. Swivels get caught on the line occasionally and the thing I hate the most is finding out my lure was messed up for 15+ minutes.

I pre-tie all of my terminal tackle with a simple loop on the end of the leader and store them in the box like the one in the in the picture. Then I tie a ball-bearing snap swivel to my main line. Then everything is ready to attach quickly and efficiently.

If you dont mind me asking...where did you get that box and leader wraps?

Thank you for your time, have a great day
