Any new reports on coho out in the ocean? The next couple of days look pretty good so going to make an attempt. Thanks

Fished Winchester Tuesday and Wednesday. Cold water Tuesday 49 degrees out today 400ft depth. 47 or so close in. Very little pressure. Got on chinook and one silver. Limits of crabs 25-45 feet of water south. Wednesday managed 4 silvers by 2:00. Thanks to a kind lady who called us in to a bite at 220 ft off the jaws. One silver was an honest 9.5# on my scale. Another limit of good sized crabs.

I said I would report. I am. Fished yesterday and thru crab pots in bay. Got mostly small crabs and females. Rough bar warning, ran to the tips and looked gnarly, doable but not fun. Trolled the bay and lower river few runs. No action for me. Absolutely loaded with bait fish and birds. Fish checker had one 18lb Chinook and talk of one or two early release. Sharkey ventured out and got some coho. Not hot fishing but I am trying again today.

Headed down to sunset Bay for a week starting Sunday, have fished, crabbed and clammed Coos bay for years. Going to venture out for some ocean fishing. Only been out of Newport in the ocean.
Going to bottom fish and hopefully try for some salmon.
Curious how people do for Coho out of Coos? Is it similar to Newport as far as water temp and depths?
Also going to drop some pots in the ocean. Any current hot depths to target for crab?

Thanks

I always head north of the jaws and start setting in 50ft to 70ft of water. Usually is pretty good. As for coho its the same as every port. Water temp and life . Goodluck

Fished out of Coos Bay yesterday. Crossed the bar around 6:00 and headed to the cables to pick up a limit of lings before switching to salmon. The bite was the slowest I've ever seen. Kept two lings and a 5 lb. vermillion for the two of us. Released some smaller lings and rockfish. Drifted my honey hole spot for two hours without a single bite. It was weird.

Switched to salmon around 2:00 and trolled the Glass House to Cape Arago area for about two hours. 130-180 fow was where we'd seen lots of life in the morning. Steady action. Released 5 wild fish, all good size. 5 or 6 more short bites. No keepers.

We'll be fishing out of either Coos or Winchester Bay tomorrow. Probably Coos. Any other reports?

Fished out of Charleston Sunday and Monday. Very nice grade of yellow tail long leader on Sunday. No keeper coho. Monday, bite was off for me on the long leader, lost count on the coho possibly 30+ none clipped. Friend worked hard but got 4 clipped for several hours trolling. 120 to 180 FOW, off of Simpson, pink hootchie 30ft on the line counter. Crabbing fair not hot but grade is good. Home for a few days and then back at it. Will report and appreciate reports. I love details-coordinates and I wont share those privately given without permission.

Thanks for the insight Army. I believe that a lot of the wild coho we’re seeing is hatchery coho salmon that were released during the pandemic w/o having their adipose fin getting clipped by volunteers. It’s just a theory, but the influx of wild coho is much higher than in years past.

I hope the restoration of the Klamath River will increase the number of chinook salmon in the central and southern Oregon waters. The tribes in Washington have things figured out… Hopefully their models will be followed by Oregon and Northern California tribes and we can rebuild the stocks to historic norms!? šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ™šŸ»šŸ“ˆšŸ€

We fished Winchester Friday the the 25th on a flat glass ocean. We boated 20 plus fish and two 18-20 lb. Chinook to get 1 very nice hatchery Coho, very disappointed in the keeper ratio but throwing back really nice Kings just kills me. All fish were caught with divers at 25-30' on the line counter with Hot Spots and Hoochie's Herring Aide, purple, and pink. I did enjoy the non-stop action makes for a great day but it is nice to eat them as well.

Just got back from a week of fishing out of Charleston, Fisrt time for me down there in the ocean. Was down for an extended family camping trip, Took different people out each day, First 3 days we rock fished, caught plenty of them. Crabbing was ok got 19 for 3 pots the first day in 70' just north of the tips. Only got 7 the next time out as the pots were only in for about 30 minutes before we had too many pukers in the boat and had to call it.

Made it out Saturday morning to target coho, waited till the tide swung so didn't get out there till 830, Ocean had some decent swells close together which was no fun, plan was to go out to 180' and start there but we made it to 80' and called it good and dropped in.

Took my daughters boyfriend who had never been salmon fishing, I rigged up his Herring and dropped it in the water and told him to hold it there to see if it spins, I said sometimes they come right to the boat and will grab it. Not two seconds later here comes a smaller coho who grabbed the bait from the surface.

We ended up landing 5 and missing 6. All were native and all in about 80' of water right in front of the tips.

Excess B S where is the 10 mile reef. I may have it by coordinates but not by name. Thank You. K-Dogg I think you are spot on on the possible non clips from covid. I tried releasing while in the water, not in the boat, I believe all made it with one possible exception. Excess right on on the whales lots and lots at all depths and locations. Must be plenty of feed.

We fished tuna last Thursday and Saturday out of coos but fished for coho on Friday for a few hours. Fished a few different depth but the most productive was around 280’ where the water temp was around 52 degrees. Fished in a group of about 50 whales. Ended up going 5 for 11 with 3 being keepers. Fish seem to be a smaller grade than the fish we were catching out of Depoe the week before.
