Chief of the Boat Wayne Corey went home 7/6/2007. Chief Corey was a WWII and Korean Conflict vet. He was my friend. Wayne served over 30 years in the Navy, all as a submariner. His first commision was aboard the USS Picuda. He rose quickly to the rank of Master Chief, the highest enlisted officer commision in the submarine service. Aboard the Picuda he was both father figure and friend to his men. Offered a Commander's commision he declined, preferring to stay "one of the men". Wayne was the single greatest American, Patriot, Gentleman and all around great man I have ever known. I consider him my most influential friend. He served our country, our young Naval personel and his community.
Look up USS Picuda on Wikipedia. Read about his adventures... and know that the Picuda did NOT return out of service during the Cuban Missle Crisis. As always... there is more to the story. And it makes me well up with pride to think of such great men putting themselves in harms way for us all. I was all of 7 years old when Wayne and his mates were making the world safe for us all from a nuclear threat 70 miles from our coast.

Wayne, I only knew you for the last 8 years of your life. I will forever miss our evening talks over a mug of grog. And I know we will share another mug of bliss one day. I miss you my friend. God bless you. And thank-you... you were a mentor, an inspiration and the one of the best damned friends a man could ask for.

Master Chief Petty Officer Wayne Corey's ashes will be laid to rest at the Sacremento National Cemetary on July 24th with full military honors. I will be in attendance, if any other ifishers can attend, let me know, I'd like to shake your hand after.

Prayers said. And a giant THANK YOU to Wayne. I am sure the Patriot Guard would be honored to have a flag line for such a hero. If you need more info shoot me a PM. Thank You for sharing something so personal.

My heart goes out to you. Losing a Master Chief is always a void that will take a lifetime to fill. Losing a great friend and mentor can never be replaced. I would be honored to attend if I could get away. But, since I am not able to. I will take my own moment of silence in honor of your friend and my fellow Navy Veteran on July 24th, 2007.
