Looking for information on river/lake camping using a boat to get there. Not after anyones secret spot, but bodies of water with good shore camping opportunities, without a lot of crowds. Even down in Rogue area. Just looking to explore new areas.

Philipie(sp) on the Lower John Day. Boat only access. Put in at the mouth and motor 2 miles up to the campground and pick your spot.

Timothy Lake - but it's definitely no secret, can be crowded. Detroit has some spots - again your campsite may be secluded, but the lake of course is Grand Central

Put in at Agness on the Rogue...run downstream. There are many secluded beaches and the fishing can be great at this time of year for half-pounders

Thumper's right, there are MILES of beaches from Rooster rock to below Rainier and there are Steelhead and Salmon (as soon as the nets are out  ) to be had....as a matter of fact I'll be camping all next week on a nice beach a short run from "secret" spot "near Rainier"

Be sure to pack water and a "latrine" of some kind!

Put in at Gold Beach and run up. Above Agness you'll find delightful beaches and bars. And bears.

Try the mouth of the John Day river above Rufus. Put in at the mouth and motor up to Phillipi Park (1.5 miles?. Excellant place with 5 acres of grass to camp on, bathrooms, etc... In April, May, June it's pretty quite except for the bass fisherman and starts getting crowded Sept./Oct. when the steelhead are in.
