Fish story time for a snowed in day:

My first large steelhead (est 18 lbs) took off down stream on the opposite side of a large rock structure in the river. I punched the freespool hoping he would turn around or stop. Lightly thumbing the spool, the line kept going out and I was surprised it did not break at 10 lb test. The fish stopped downstream about 50 feet and I tried to get the time around the boulder with little luck. Then I had an idea to use part of a small branch on the bank, wrap a few turns of line around, and with a light thumb deftly tossed the branch to the opposite side of the boulder. Since the line was wrapped around the branch, this took my line around the boulder and when it was free, the fish was still on. After a quick fight and release memories were made. It was worth it to replace the frayed line! I really did this on the first try ... honest!

Happy holidays to all!

Here is mine. Last year in February. Didnt get to tape it but I think it was 20 or dang close. Thanks to eyefish for the touch up job. Hey JD you better start saving your pennies if you want a replica b/c a fish like your talking will run you upwards of 15-16 hundred depending on how good you want it to look and who does it for you.

Are you kidding me?! I work at Joe's...I'm made of money:hoboy:
Honestly, it's just a matter of getting him cause the money has been saved for a while although the mount fund is getting lower every time a make another trip without getting him. He better come quick or I'll be another guy saying "I'll get it done someday"

Greg Is that you? Nice fish. If your measurements are close its a mid 30 pound steelhead not 25:D Those are a couple awesome fish.

41 " Native on the NFN at the falls 8# fluorocarbon leader 10# big game
flame and white go glow. 27 min fight, and a guy took a picture of the
fish laying on the net and I could not find him. Bill Monroe wrote it up and the picture never surfaced . This was 3 yrs ago. If you have the picture I would
love to have a copy. Thank you.

16# nate on the umpqua river, elkton to rv park run, in Jan 05', first trip ever for winter steelhead, my buddy told me they run big on the umpqua and he was not joking!!

My best to date was a 20lber caught out of the Wilson on a Jig and Float.Fought like a chinook on Roids. My father in law caught 2 over 20 that same year!!It's a big fish river along with the Trask

Here are 2 of the 3 caught back to back to back days last year on the Sandy. These are the smaller 2 of the 3. We forgot the camera when I caught the big boy!!!!Oh well, memories are as good as pics....Right?:passout:

I was really bummed when I saw how poor this picture turned out. This was a huge fish and one of the nicest steelhead I have ever caught.

This fish was thick.

Sorry guys I rarely post pics, so I dont know how to make them any bigger.

I'm getting all pumped for the real steelhead to get here this year and I've been thinking that if I get that monster bright fish his replica is going on the wall. I figure he's going to have to be over 41" to justify the money or one heck of a story.
The question is...How big is your biggest steelhead ever and did you get it mounted? If you have a great steelie mount can I see it so I know what to look forward to?

JD
Here's mine. This made the rounds on the FF board for a bit. 42x25 on the swing. I will get it mounted...it's about $1700.

19# hatchery summer run, 6-1-90 opening day on the Wynoochee River. Low and clear water, whole sand shrimp and one cannonball split shot. Caught it in the middle of a group of guys that had been there since daylight using "traditional" heavier steelhead gear with no luck :D and yes I have a pic, but it is an unscanned polaroid.

If some of these pictures don't get our blood pumping, nothing will!!! Great fish all around. I can only dream My biggest was about 17#, 38" summer steelhead on 2/4/1998, on a homemade jig. It would have been over 20 if I caught it when he initially entered the system.

Amen brother!

I should start a thread on the WORLD'S BIGGEST STEELHEAD to collect the "best of the best" of these images in one place (sort of like my WORLD'S BIGGEST KINGS thread). Nothing but fish over 25# will be allowed. There are certainly some contenders posted here already.

Thats a great replica and fish. Thanks for sharing. I just like taking pics, didnt weigh this one. But a buddy did measure it at 40 back in mid Oct. I hope to get a bigger one in the next few weeks!
