I REALLY need to get some new paint slapped on my crab pot buoys and I'm wondering what's the best kind to use on them? Spray paint seems to fade pretty quickly. I plan on buying the paint and turning the wifes creativity loose on them. Hopefully I will be fishing with flowers and fairies on the buoys soon. That way no one will want to steal them.

I found that giving them a light sanding taking the shine off helps the paint from chipping and flaking and keeps the paint from beading up or running.
The thick Rust-Oleum holds up to the abuse pretty good and you can get small cans in many colors.
Her imagination is all that is required after that

It's ok but doesn't hold up for more than a couple of season's. You still need to scuff up the surface prior to using it.
It's pretty thin and that makes it difficult to apply without having runs

With all these pretty shiny bouys, mine really stand out.....they are all beat to hell and have about six different colors on them.

I was going to carve them to look like seal heads, but was afraid I wouldn’t find them amongst all the other seal heads, and the propeller marks would surely destroy them.

Disclaimer.....I am not promoting someone to drive over seal heads.

No need to promote it Dan but I would worry about putting seal head floats on the CR
You know about the law going through that will allow officials to kill troublesome fur bags.
Those guys are likely to shoot anything that resembles one

England Marine sells several colors of paint for buoys. Using the wrong paint with a high VOC will actually start a fire with the foam on the buoys, I know my brother in law had that happen to bunch of his when painting.

:yeahthat:

I got some Vinylon from them, it's specifically for PVC/foam buoys. It's held up pretty well. I also have some Pettit lobster buoy paint that I got online somewhere. There's all kinds of wild colors if you want to channel your inner artist.
I prefer the Vinylon over the Pettit. Not as runny, easier to apply.
