I picked up a new to me Alumaweld Super Vee and want to upgrade the fish finder in it. It currently has an older Humminbird unit it but would like something a bit newer and with GPS. I will primarily be fishing rivers for salmon and the occasional lake and bay use. I don’t need the latest and greatest but would like to get a dependable, quality unit in the $500 range. Any suggestions?

Best suggestion would be to bump up your price point to around 800. Start here for you price comparison's, GPS Store can have good deals with free shipping,,,gregg

I don’t want to highjack the thread but it sounds like Whatcha found a unit.

@IrishTripletsi would like to purchase your unit if it is still for sale please

I have a Garmin Echomap UHD94sv I used one season. It's in perfect shape. \ I only upgraded because I put on radar and this unit doesn't support radar. Touch screen, very clear and easy to use. You would have to buy a transducer for it, as I kept the gt51 that came with it. You can get one for around $380.
$300 and it's yours.

Garmin Echomap 73sv or 93sv. They go on sale on Father's day at Cabela's every year. Many threads on this. The bays will be blank on the map but you can map it yourself using quickdraw contours for free. Inland maps are HD contours.

These look like the newest models:

Here is the older model I use:

This is a very fair price, you can find the GT-54 transducers for $100 pretty easily, most of them never used.

There’s a plethora of gt54 transducers for sale, heck I’ll sell you one nib for 100.00

Hodges Marine. Search the bargain bin online and you can upgrade to a bird or garmin and stay in your busget. Only drawback is the screen size in that price range. Personally, I would choose one of the Garmin 7's in a clear view or side view, depending on preference. They dont come in a pretty box from the factory, but Garmin support is tops!!!

Its too bad these newer fish finders are getting so expensive. I used some smaller screen economical units for many years and they were fine for depth and locating fish, but very hard to see some days. I had both the lowrance and humming bird in 4" & 5".

I finally went to a 7" screen and was much happier with the product....First i got a lowrance Hook 7 and had issues, then I moved up to a Raymarine Element. I'm real happy with this one, But.... i've got a grand wrapped up in it.

My next unit will be 9" screen. Eye sight isn't getting any better. LOL
