I've only seen the first one so far.

That skipper of the Ashley Nicole is about a miserable ***. I enjoyed seeing them not make any money.

Smaller boat, direct to market, fresher fish is a trend in the industry. Across a lot of different fisheries.

Fun to watch a show from here, no matter what.

For me it was real choppy. It felt like they hit all the criteria for reality tv, just to hit the bullet point.

To bad they just don’t make a fishing show where it’s nothing but an old salt on the ocean telling his sea stories of years passed while fishing.

It was cool seeing the commercials catch the fish, but the choppiness created a whole new level of half assed story telling mixed with a few fish. Then it just felt like some of it was forced. I don’t know seemed more like a Brittany spears music video type show personally.

No mass appeal. Sad but true.

Old salt telling fishing stories? Good luck with that in this day and age. Something like that these days basically has to be a passion project funded by donors. Try getting the average fisherman who gripes about a 10 dollar a year fee increase to pay 30 bucks for 10 episodes of TV. Not happening.

Well-produced and well-edited TV costs money to produce. I'd MUCH rather put up with the components that help Netflix make their money than to not ever have the chance to watch something like this. Would I pay 30 bucks for the season? Would many of us here on ifish? You bet! And that would be the majority of the funding, and it might cover 1% of production expenses.

The fact that I didn't have to confront any claims akin to deadliest catch referring to Newport as one of the most treacherous bar crossings in the world is a major plus.

Funny how so many folks object to the 'language' of this series. As someone who has worked in the 'trades', including fishing, for a half century plus, I can assure the folks who haven't lived among the men who actually do the work that feeds the masses and builds and maintains the infrastructure of the world, that the amount of foul language is quite authentic.

Definitely scripted and edited enough to make it tame enough for an audience, but still give the more sheltered of us a taste of the real world.

It does seem like the 'F' bomb was over used a bit, just because it was used in lieu of the more rough and obscene language that is common among the trades.

I enjoyed the show, learned some useful stuff, and it seems much closer reality than other, so called, reality tv......well done.

I have always been surrounded by rough language, but at least they knew how to cuss.

There something about folks who just throw F bombs, they look like a bunch of uneducated morons....and I just don’t like when a show that protays all of us out here on the coast as anything like those individuals.

I blame the editors for bad twist on a good series.

Got through about 3 episodes. Ya, sometimes the "f" word seems to be encouraged. I'm a tradesman and work around nothing but guys all day and we have some pretty bad potty mouths, but some this on the show seems to be forced or encouraged. Enough for me to take notice. I'm more about watching what ocean conditions they're in, wish all my fishing days in the ocean were like that! Did pick up on some pointers, dead bait can include leaving them whole and tossing them one at a time overboard. I was chopping mine up. Going to power through the rest at earliest convenience.

I agree. Foul language just doesn't make it enjoyable. Heck it portrait the picture of fisherman's attitude which is so not true.

I thought the show was great! I felt a little guilty about watching it in front of my 7&9 year old kids, but not guilty enough to turn it off! They enjoyed the show too.

We met Thor (Deckhand on the TNT) on a cruise down the baja of Mexico this past spring. He attended my brother in laws wedding on the cruise ship. Super cool dude.

I think i'm going to watch the show a second time to see if I missed anything that will make me a better fisherman. I'm going to add a jack pole to my quiver. Looks simple and effective!

Great show!

I finished it last night. I liked it. Since I don't tuna fish anymore and have never bait fished I learned a lot from it. Biggest take away was the bigger the boat the better because the catching is much better 75+ miles out.

The way those guys talk sounds exactly like the office I work in. :jester: I think they were just being themselves and the producers left it uncensored like it should be.

Tailwalker - Great job. Love the business model. We need a Season 2!

Not that anyone cares about it but here's an opinion from a non PNW fisherman.

Footage was great. Hate that they spliced in shots of a jig when it was a live bait that actually was being used on a hook.

I told my buddy I was surprised that the yellow boat wasn't jack poling from the beginning and that they had the best model to sell. Although I'm not sure it's the most efficient now since they burn so much fuel. Also, why use barbed hooks for a jack pole when it takes time to unhook? Why use bait? What lb. test since they broke line? They constantly talk about time and all that takes time. The other boats didn't seem to use barbed hooks because the fish came off so easily once on deck. Sure sometimes the fish want bait but the TNT and Judy S caught fish w/out putting a chovie on a hook.

You wonder how many days they actually fished. Especially since there are still albacore being caught now. Weather NEVER seemed to be that rough. Even when the so called "front" was moving down from the Gulf.

Language was unbelievable. People really talk like that? I cuss a fair amount but come on. I'd never ever call my so called friends M.F.'s. I don't even call fish that. Maybe pinchie fish but that's about it. Was that for the camera or are they really that uneducated? Well yeah I think most could fit the bill of not being the sharpest tool in the shed.

I was very surprised that most of the fisherman did not wear foul weather gear. I think it was only the yellow boat that everyone had Grundens on. Jeez I can only imagine just how much they all stunk after 10 days or so out on the water.

Radio is your friend. They all got called into a bite at some point in time.

The fish really aren't that big. Guys were constantly saying "that's a pig" or something along those lines. Biggest of the season at 39lbs was a nice fish. But the ave. was closer to 20lbs.

Last but not least, every newbie to albie fishing should watch the show. There should be no more "What lb. test do you use?" Threads. Albies are stupid fish. You didn't see Opportunaty drop down to lighter line to catch fish that weren't biting did you? Sure they're commercial but they didn't have any problems catching fish. I fish 20lb not because they won't bite 40lb it's because it's more fun. Albies aren't the best fighting of the tuna's. Heck even a 10lb bonita will pull harder than an albie of similar size or bigger.

That's what I cant get over, and it's EVERY episode....
My last outing was quite miserable. Weather turned on us and had to high tail it back to shore. These guys seem to have doable weather every episode...

Aaron that is a class operation you run. I would love to see more of the sport guys that crossover into the commercial world and a little less of the crusty guys. Certainly could have done with a little less of the language as it was tough to find time to watch the show when my kiddos were not around. Overall very fun to see our local waters being highlighted.

No filming on the yellow boat this year so we're at least a year and a half from a season 2. We have 3 types of gear on Opportunaty that we bait fish with Jack pole, 80Lb and 30 Lb.

Got thru the first two shows, I enjoyed seeing the process on some of those bigger boat.

I didnt like hearing how they were headed to the corners 125 by 46 and there was a big bite going on, then they cut to the captain and you see in the background on the chartplotter, they are on the 127 40 West line. The boat is over 100 miles from where they say they are.

"We didnt catch any fish today" then you see the fish count wrote on the window behind them, and its triple digits.

To much Hollywood in the show, but its interesting.

They are just trying to stack pieces together in the edit. There was also a sweet shot of the boats together 'fishing' with the CR can clearly visible next to them.

Man I wish we could get them that close!

It isn't easy to edit all that film together into a cohesive package, even ignoring manufactured drama. Put together a crappy home video of family sometime and you'll see how hard it is.

Liking it so far. I am glutton when it comes to these "reality" shows. I know the editing is appalling. So the yellow boat was actively catching tuna (at least 40 miles offshore???) and they hear a distress call on the CR bar and they drop every thing and head in thinking they are gonna be the first boat to respond????

Agreed. I found that one a bit funny. I guess folks from not around here will believe it... Interesting show, but not family friendly.

Just depends on the family. We watched it all with our 11-yr old who, since he was old enough to understand bad words, has lived by the rule that anything goes at home (within reason) as long as he never gets in trouble for language at school/sports. So far so good. I was raised the same way and also stayed out of trouble. Definitely broadens the horizon on what we've been able to watch together (and who we've been able to fish with).
