46015May 2024No hull on scene, Deploy SCOOP hull on new mooring (What does this mean?)
I looked at the maintenance schedule and 46015(Port Orford) is the only one mentioned and it's not until next year?

Seems the southern Oregon coast doesn't have any in ocean operating buoys? Do you know what the status is on these buoys?
I don't know if we service those buoys. I'll find out and get back to you.

Dan

We have been discussing the use of fuel water separators and specific coast guard requirements. I have a Yamaha F70 outboard and plan to mount the filter to the back of the boat and use one with the clear plastic cup. I believe this is fine but not sure. However, I believe the clear cups are not allowed when mounted within the engine compartment and have an I/O. Can you clarify these requirements? Thanks!

maybe the coast guard would assign someone to help out here. as its needed.
they dont have stations all over to go to for questions.
I bet a spokesman for local/coastal USCG questions would need to be a liason in the boating safety office. The assignment of an individual to answer questions could also be a liability. Dan was a liason for District 13 so imposing that assignment on "somebody" in D 13 boating safety seems correct and legitimate.

I don't think Dan as 'assigned' to ifish duty and won't likely have a replacement. Could be very wrong about that, but no one else has appeared since he retired. Kind of like the Stevens tech thread that relied on one person to maintain. When they left, the thread died.

Agreed... I think it was a courtesy but I would think he had approval from the hierarchy.

Don you are right Dan was not assigned to ifish he did it on his own and I feel he didn't get the appreciation that he deserved as in a lot of things people don't appreciate the things people do for them until their no longer there to help them. just my opinion thou

Thank you Don. I can't take credit for the thread on I fish Dan created/answered to, but I know him from serving with him at NMLBS. His qualifications outweigh mine. Stating or quoting the rules, regs doesn't take a credential. Helping mariners by pointing out navigational rules of the road is about all I want to contribute.

I'm glad my question started a good conversation amongst ifish friends and wolf back family. As always the coast guard has been appreciated in all they do. I remember a discussion about dates on bottom of extinguisher and was asking about recommendations for boat lengths and usage. Between all the smart folks here can anyone clarify for me. Thanks in advance

Quoting regs is less important than explaining in lay terms what they mean. Wording of the reg is often what prompts the question. And don't be too modest, you've always stepped up with knowledgeable input. And it's appreciated.

CR Bar camera info was handed off to a private contractor I'm told. The Cape D officer of the day still handles bar closures etc but pictures, cameras etc were given to a private contractor (as I understand it). Why do I comment?
Bar camera reports/info is sadly deficient and frankly dangerous. Misinformation is common and out of date/time. The kaviet is you're the skipper, you decide. When the bar is restricted, it is mandated to be honored or fines, levies could be imposed.
When the report is a day old, restrictions are in place, and mariners cross, what recourse do "we" have? This problem seems to be inherent to the CR. Tillamook, Grays Harbor reports (the two heard on radio broadcasts in the CR area) seem to be more informative and accurate.
Dan was the liason to the "ask the CG" forum. Supposedly a new liason was chosen. Are there answers to these questions? I'd like to hear them. Tnx.
