Hi all Cpt. Ron here. I have fished out of Brookings for the past 10yrs and have never gone tuna fishing. We have moved up to Sweet home and are going to fish out of Newport. Does anyone have a good spot for bottem fish, tuna.

Bottom fishing can be found on the reefs and rocks south of Newport. I don't fish for bottomfish much but if you look on a chart or your plotter you will find lots of rocks and reefs within a few miles from the jetties. Be careful near the south reefs as they often have breakers if there is much swell.

We have been really luck for Tuna this year as they have been close most of the year. Normally a 270-290 heading and they have been less than 30miles most of the season.

Yesterday was one of the more difficult tuna days of the summer so far. Scratch fishing at best for most. We ended up in the mid 20's but were 40+ miles from the jetties on about the same course as above.

Search this forum and read past posts and you will find more info than you will probably want to read.
