A lot of Salmon are caught every year off the rocks at Winchester in the fall..

 

That would be awesome. Any tips on fishing for Salmon on those rocks?

 

Go to half moon bay down the road. Throw the largest spinner you can get ahold of as far as you can reel in and repeat. Normally a big crowd there when fish are in and a guy selling lures out of the back of his truck.

 

Is half moon good for crab right now?

 

Buy a stinger lure biggest you can find.

 

Fishing for salmon on the crab dock won’t work. There’ll be too many crab lines to tangle with.

Go to the end of Salmon Harbor RV. There’s a smallish parking lot and you can throw some heavy spinners off of the rocks there.
That’s the natural channel of the Umpqua.

 

When is the best time to fish that area? Low-tide? Slacks? High?

 

Which area? A general rule, as I recall, salmon would hunker down and hold more during heavy outgoing tides and move on slower or incoming tides. If your talking Winchester Point I'd say on a heavy outgoing, fish may duck into the calmer water/eddy formed by the point. And incoming be moving. But something else to consider, fish will be coming and going until some rain hits the river enough to get the fish really moving.

 

Osprey Point can be fished effectively at any stage of the tide. Half Moon Bay is much more fishable at mid to high tide.
