Any D.I.Y. Cornhole game builders?

I just built a DIY Cornhole game to play with while camping
but I think it needs to have a little slicker surface.

Made the top with 3/4" plywood and gave it 2 coats of
glossy Varathane. Not as slick as I thought it would be.

Any idea what I can do to make it slippery?

More coats of Varathane?

Car wax?

Lemon Pledge?

Just don't know and need some advice, please.

P.S. I didn't come up with the game name!

Amazon has a zillion vinyl wraps.

Doesn't this post belong in the "You might be a *******..." thread?

Actually my son built a game for a woodworking contest, but it looks nice, and we haven't gotten it dirty by playing with it much. It will probably need something to make it slicker, too.

I don't know anything about varathane since my dad was a Tung oil guy, but it's standard procedure for me with Tung oil to build up several layers of finish and then sand between coats with something like 800 grit paper to really make it smooth. That makes a huge difference with Tung oil, but it takes some dedication.

I do also recall my dad talking about car wax to put a really shiny finish on projects.

Just checked them a bit ago and the surface seems
better/harder. Probably a bit not quite dried last night.

Going to a picnic today and gonna try them.

I'll then decide if it's more Varathane or a coat or two
of wax. I did sand/steelwool between coats. I did 2 coats
but leaning to a couple more?

At 35 to 50 bucks for vinyl wraps I'm gonna pass. Thats
more than I have in them now.

Or, can Tungoil be applied to already coated with
Varathane?

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll know more after today?

The couple sets I have made so far are very slippery simpley from using a finish paper pf 400 and water based urethane and repeated waxing. Now I am working on one currently has a top that will be made from phenolic-faced multi-ply. I also have appropriately sized parts of our old formica counters that I am thinking of using for tops.

Don't discount the use of "lube"....

Tossing quates is still high on our backyard entertainment list as is bocce. I am also thinking of putting in washed sand based pro level croquet court in the back forty. play all year rain or shine.

LOL... Remind me never to play on your court. I have seen this happen at shoot outs at local micro brew tournies. Those that did it were really hung out to dry. I always carry my own sacks in 3 different standard weights to match the local scene. And... I don't make my sacks out of corn kernels.

The Dynamic thermal Coefficent of friction of Ultra High Molecular Weight polymer is in the range of .08 too .10 as measured against polished stainless steel. This in theory will give you 6 to 8x better sliding and wear in your application. If you really want it to slide you can use PTFE which has the lowest Coefficent of friction @ .05 but tefflon is about 10x the cost and is very soft for any sort of wear application. I would machine it on one one of my vacume table cnc routers in about 30 seconds if they were not fully booked for the forseeable future.:thisbig:
