The CR area from B10 to Toungue Point is currently closed for the retention of Chinook. The B10 area will be open for Chinook retention Aug. 22-Sept. 3.

Here is a link to the ODFW B10 catch estimate tally. To date it has been very slow for coho. During good coho years (and when they actually bite in the estuary) the third week of August usually begins the run up to peak coho B10 coho abundance(around the 1st of Sept.)

The area above Toungue Point is currently open for Chinook retention. The last day for Chinook retention from Toungue Point to the Lewis is September 4. The rest of the river upstream of the Lewis will remain open for Chinook until the harvest allocation is attained. This will depend on angler catch rates and the Chinook stock composition.

Coho and steelhead must have a healed adipose fin clip in all areas.

Chinook may be retained during retention periods with either a healed adipose fin clip or an intact adipose fin.

Can you keep nooks in CR? Thought that didn't happen until later in month?

He is not talking about retention only catching. Sounds like he was targeting Coho and only caught Chinook.

So let me get this... Chinooks either native or hatchery can be kept???? WOW

so is bouy#10 pretty much in the ocean.... can you really fish for chinook from bouy 10 to the mouth???? Or would that be like trolling back and forth across the CR bar????

The area outside Buoy 10 in the river mouth is always closed.

Once you are seaward of the red B10 marker you may not fish again until you are beyond the CR control zone.

The regulation link above has an illustration of the geographic boundaries of the CR control zone on page 11 of your reader.

And yes, the CR fall Chinook fishery is not ad-clip selective (as the hatchery fish are not yet mass ad-clipped) and you can keep Chinook either way.

Coho and steelhead must be ad-clipped in order for you to retain them.

Took the boat up yesterday, fished today, came home today. Left boat, will go back up middle of next week. SAW NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING. I guess we should have been watching Wayne closer, I did not see any action. JD
