This little guy showed up last year with just little spikes about 4" long, one sticking out at a right angle, the other where it's supposed to be. This year, the little forks are following the same pattern. Not a clear photo as I was shooting through the window screen and he was gone by the time I got outside to get a better view. He should look quite odd next year when he has a full rack.
