On vacation down at the coast with the family this week - one day at Cape Meares, one day at Pacific City - saw massive schools of anchovies right in the surf. I could wade out into them. Are they coming in to spawn and is that a typical annual thing? They would be incredibly easy to net. At Cape Meares they were there one day and gone the next.

So, has anyone seen this before?

We saw lots of little fishies jumping in the jaws of netarts while crabbing last saturday. we were saying if we had the smelt net we could have probably filled a bucket or two. didnt know what they were, assumed the were anchovies.
