Makes a lot of sense, the 308 is a very good medium cartridge. Loaded with Nosler Partition, or Swift A Frame it will kill any animal in Canada.
With Canada using 7.62x51 ball ammo, it's easy to get just about anywhere.

A few years back I was watching a news story where a police sniper took out a bad guy from quite a distance away, and he was using a .308. It surprised me that with all the calibers available, he would have chosen the .308. But then again, they might know just a bit more on the subject than I do. And again, it may not have been an off the shelf rifle using production cartridges.
