3-5 oz clipped to a vip line lock. Weight and distance from boat will depend on current and whether you are going with or against it.

 

Last year I was running 6 oz and trolling in 10' of water without any problems. I think I have around 4' (maybe more) from weight to 360 and then maybe 2' from 360 to lure. I want the 360 to move my lure around, in addition to the lures own action, just like I do when kokanee fishing.

Been MONEY for the past 5 days

 

I use 8” ProTrolls with 3-4oz lead when I’m fishing in 8-16’ depth. Sometimes I use heavier or lighter lead, all depends on current speed, etc. I’ve caught coho with as little as 35’ on the line counter and I can see my flasher working.

 

Depends where you are fishing and tides. Where I fish it’s 8-15’ primarily and I use 6-12oz lead with a 6” dropper. Not snaggy where I am so I like being on the bottom. 18” bumper and leader.

 

Three of my last four fish I tagged were caught in less than 6' of water. 4-5oz. rod straight out the back tends to be fishiest for me. Depending on water clarity, the flasher is often visible!

 

Our last trip in the ocean this year the hot rod caught four out of our six fish limit fishing at only twelve feet on the line counter and you could see the 360 flasher. Fishing a little faster and it wasn't only silvers that we caught. One was an upper 20's nook that ripped 75 yards of line off right away. One other cool thing was none of them came unbuttoned. Yes I know you are not in the ocean, but doing what you are thinking works well in tribs also. At times they are a little more spooked and longer lines are needed in those instances similar to kokanee fishing.

I got bit with 5 oz 40' on line counter, beautiful wild Chinook released.

And 6 oz at 25', pretty sure it was a coho but lost it before netting range.
