I have a buddy who likes to run a double herring rig which puts 4 single point hooks in the water - I told him this was illegal but his response was that a two hook herring rig counts as a single hook. Here are a couple of questions: Kwickfish..does this count as two hooks or 1? Herring rigs..does this count as 2 hooks or one?

I thought the extra hooks only applied to plugs or artificials. For bait I believe only 2 is allowed. Somebody correct if I'm wrong. Don't you love all the ambiguious regs oregon has.

I don't have the regs in front of me, but my recollection is that a treble hook counts as one hook, but a two hook mooching rig counts as two. I use 3 hook mooching rigs all the time and know they are legal as I've been checked several times while using them. Your friend is illegal - only 3 hooks max are allowed. On a kwikfish, count the hooks. Most guys I've seen fishing a two kwikfish setup have two hooks on one kwikfish and a single siwash or treble hook on the other kwikfish.
